I'm sorry to hear you lost your fish. This isn't a criticism but I know you've lost a few fish recently, it might be worth just standing back and taking stock of things, not adding anything for a while just in case there's something going on.

Definitely, just did changes on both my small tanks in less than 30 minutes before getting ready for work, so that's a definite plus! Still gutted about my cories but at least I can hopefully avoid anything similar in future.

I'd love a BIG tank but I live in a flat so it just wouldn't be possible! Little tanks can be fun, albeit not as much room to mix things up but still a variety of scapes possible.

Speaking from very recent experience, yes! I just killed off my whole tank with the aforementioned dodgy tabs. But liquid ones should be fine if dosed appropriately. If yore having Spikes keep up with water changes and don't dose any ferts for a bit.

It could be from your tap water, try testing some to see.

Can you return it for a replacement? Not sure if that's feasible but even if not it could be worth sending pics to the retailer to see if they will issue a partial refund. Paludarium could be cool though :)

It's the only thing I can think of as nothing else had changed. Still dealing with a very small ammonia spike in my betta tank but nothing like what happened to my main tank. Mine were unbranded so not sure if that had a part to play, from what others have said API are highly rated.

Just to update three out of the four cories have died since my last post. The final one looks extremely lethargic and I am considering euthanasia now to stop its suffering.

Balance is fine, colour is normal, just pretty lethargic. I imagine they're probably still pretty stressed. They're also now in a small group (only 4) but not going to worry about that for now, need to get them through this first. I'm just glad that, as bad as this has been, my betta tank seems...

Thats what I was thinking, it's just cheap play sand and I could take advantage of them being in the QT tank to do so, it'll be a pain but I can take my time to do it if need be.

QT test results just for comparison. The cories look to be in very bad shape this morning unfortunately. Shallow rapid breathing, barely moving. Not sure if I need to make a call about euthanasia. Can't even find the frogs but I know they're in there!

Main tank test result - pH very low, ammonia approx 1ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate approx 5ppm.

Thank you, I'm afraid I'm not sure how the tabs were made as they were unbranded. Lesson learned, only stick to reputable brands, or perhaps just liquid ferts as I've never had issues with liquid ferts.

Thanks, they are in a QT tank with no substrate atm, just an established filter and lots of floating plants. Will need to figure out what to do with the main tank where the ammonia issue started tomorrow morning. Possibly tear it down and put fresh sand in? Too extreme?

Gah I'm really angry at myself for causing this. Need to get some sleep and come back to things tomorrow with a fresh brain.

It does increase using Equilibrium, I was testing gH and kH before water changes but have got a bit lax recently as I know how much it should take to get to my desired hardness, so it may not have been on point.
