    Sixty Gallon Journal

I am using an aqua clear 110 on this 60 gallon tank. Is it possible that the water flow in the upper third of the water column is too strong for the tetras? Is this why I never see them swimming anywhere near the surface? They hang out at the bottom of the tank with a. thomasi.

    Sixty Gallon Journal

I never see any of the 3 species of fish in the African tank eat. Even when I was away for a week and the fish were not fed, they did not eat in front of me when I fed them upon my return. I placed a small glass dish on the substrate and used a feeding tube to add food to it. I did this because...

My wife and I spent a week in North Carolina with our grandchildren. Loads of fun…..mostly. I’m pooped from the week playing with an 2 and 5 year old, and also the 5.5 hour drive back to Maryland. As soon as I unpacked, I performed water exchanges in two of our five tanks and of course fed all...

    Nitrate levels

My well water has a stable nitrate concentration of 25 ppm. I use API Nitrozorb in my Aquaclear HOB for 2 days after each water change. It brings the tank nitrate levels down to around 5 ppm.

I'm sick and tired of people talking about the 'PH' a fish needs

KH is determined by concentrations of bicarbonate and carbonate ions in water. KH is a measure of buffering capacity. The higher the KH the more stable the pH when tank conditions are threatened by factors that would unfavorably increase or decrease pH. KH is therefore a metric of pH homeostasis.
