    Top Fin 40 Gallon question

I have 3, five gallon and 1’ ten gallon top fin tanks that have been fine. $65 sounds like a decent price. I just bought a 60 gallon Aqueon on sale for $99, no lid.

    Filter that removes nitrate

Thank you. Very useful information. What is the downside at running the filter at 50 gallons per hour? I am new at this hobby.

    Filter that removes nitrate

I have de*nitrate. Do you know the difference between matrix and de*nitrate? Why would a company sell two products that supposedly do the same thing?

    Filter that removes nitrate

My tanks are densely planted. I perform weekly 50% water exchanges. So my nitrate levels are never higher than the levels coming from my well water. However the well water has a stable nitrate level of 30 ppm. Thus the necessity for the filter.

    Filter that removes nitrate

Don’t you need a storage tank. I thought flow through the cartridges was too slow to hose 30 gallons into my 60 gallon aquarium.

    Filter that removes nitrate

I have mentioned on the forum that my well water has a persistent nitrate level of about 30 ppm. My fish appear to be doing well but I am uncomfortable with the situation. You may say, “gwand get yourself a RO system”. Two problems. I am a bit lazy. And once my new 60 gallon tank is running I...

    The Natural Aquarium

When I was a practicing neuroscientist at a high ranking academic institution we use to joke that it was much easier to get information out of Harvard than it was to get information into Harvard. Some folks think they know it all. C’est la vie.

    The Natural Aquarium

Anyone on a crusade is suspect until proven otherwise. Unwavering dogmatic advice is usually wrong. I listened to one of his utube talks. My take away was that his model would only work for a small variety of fish. I don’t think his theory can be extrapolated to the general community of fish...

Entry #9 Hurry up and wait. That is the theme for the next week. My pool filter sand is being shipped and there has been a delay. I purchased a product that supposedly needs little to no rinsing. That would be great if true. In the meantime, I am collecting rocks, and scrubbing them down, which...

    Blocking line of sight

Thanks. Do I need to bisect or trisect the 48 inch dimension of the tank with tall plants or other structures in order to cut down the line of sight? Doesn’t sound pleasing aesthetically but I do want my fish to be safe. Maybe I can be more creative.

    Blocking line of sight

I have Amazon in 5 and 10 gallon tanks for almost two years. Once it reaches the water’s surface the leaves curl over onto the surface. Shrimp love it. So do small timid fish.

G, 1. How many spawning flats for the three pairs of a. Thomasi? Of course, assuming I get three pairs and not end up with all males. 2. Entry #8 With great care my wife and I transferred the 20 gallon tank onto the newly assembled aquarium stand. I removed 10 gallons of water before we did the transfer. We had placed “slippers” on the feet of the aquarium stand so we could more easily slide it across the room to its new home...
