    Heterandria formosa

Keeping them all these years has given me so much joy. I love very small fish. I'm fortunate to keep more dwarf livebearer species overhere. And Heterandria formosa is one of them. And I agree that keeping them in a group makes them look much better.

    Heterandria formosa

Got all of my least killifish (Heterandria formosa) out of their outdoor tank at a water temperature of 13°C. And they were still very active both adults and fry... Total of 6 cups of Heterandria formosa I got out of there... We have had frost a few times now and it has not affected them.

    Interesting lifespan research

This is also true for most livebearers that when kept single, they grow up in a good pace, become larger without any problems and live longer.

Horrible help at a hardware store

No, they only scan the label on the tank times the number of fish. Nothing more, nothing less. Those fish were already inventoried. It's true that the aquatic hobby has been much more active for decades in Germany than in other European countries. But there are a lot of clubs in several hobby...

Horrible help at a hardware store

Yes, we do... But this chain store is the only one in our country which has an aquarium section in every store they have. To be honest, this is the very first time that I heard about booking a fish as well. She clearly made that up. Well, a friend of mine notified me today that she had similar...

Horrible help at a hardware store

Today I’ve visited a couple of stores. One of them was the hardware store called Hornbach. This is a chain store. which also has an aquarium section. The store looked great but the help I had of an employee was the downside. She clearly showed no interest to help. She contradicted me. Fish I was...

    Generational fishkeepers?

My parents started off back in the 1960's. I was the only child who was interested in keeping fish as well.

    To the LFS with fish

I love the contrast in colors, the red of those platies against the blue background.

    What are you doing today?

Today I've done some gardening in the backyard... And later on I've ordered new business cards and black plastics bags ( a couple of sizes) to use at the vivaristic events. I was planning to repair my second bicycle but I just don't feel up to it anymore. Maybe later this week...

    Baby guppy with big belly

A well fed juvenile. I even wonder if it's a female. If I look at the anal fin, it's quite pointy at the tip, which makes me say that we are dealing with a young male that will develop a gonopodium.

    OK, back to it!

As Matt has already stated, used tanks would be a better option to keep the costs down. But yes, finding well sized tanks for a bargain isn't always that simple.

Will the guppy fry be ok? (Shipping)

Shipping (national or international) fish is always a risk. Probably domestic in this case. But as long as the sender has packed those fish properly, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Leaking bag

This afternoon I have done some errands at an lfs. Bought some spiderwood, plants, aeration dividers And two bags of livebearers (Ameca splendens & mollies). I had put it in my backpack. At some point I felt something wet on my back. Turned out that one of those bags was leaking. The spiderwood...
