    With barbs are agressive?

I have 6 tiger barbs in my 140 lt with 15 other fish and the only thing they are interested in is each other. I also have 4 cherry barbs and these guys are totally different, one minute they are all together the next they are all split up all over the tank. The tigers are the biggest fish in my...

    fake plants?

When I brought my first tank home it had around 25 fake plants with it. I used these as a template to do some aquascaping with. When I got the right look I went and bought the "real things" one at a time and replaced the fakes. But I wouldn,t go out and buy fakes, not at $5 bucks each or more...

    The CO2's working!

Hi Anna, just thought you might like to check this site out, it explains in detail the relationship between PH, KH and CO2. If I was adding CO2 I would definately want to know the concetration as anything over 35ppm is stressfull to fish. www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2

    airstones vs co2

Goodaye Focus, First off I want to say I,m only new to this aquarium stuff but one thing I do know about it Hydroponics. I,ve been doing it for years and have never had a plant die, some grow slower but I believe after years of trial and error I know how to grow plants in water. I think you...

    Heaters

I did read somewhere that having a heater that is too big is not really good for your fish. Too large a heater will heat the water too quickly stressing the fish.

    First Fish

Hi James, trust me when I say these guys and ladies know what they are talking about when it comes to fishless cycling. I did the wrong thing and put way too many fish in a new tank and I,m still paying the price a month later. But why not muck around with some live plants, rocks and driftwood...

    Do fish get tired?

I,m just wondering because I have a filter/pump that is rated at 600lt/hr in a 140lt tank, if there is too much water movement for the fish. How far from the surface would you place the powerhead? Could too much movement kill the fish? I,m also worried about temp. Many UK people are saying they...

    Aquamanis tank update

I decided to start a new thread as there was a lot of useless posts in the last one. (And some good ones too, thankyou). Anyway I thought I had rid the problem but on the weekend 2 more fish died. The silver shark that had the scales missing and a orange platty were KIA.(Killed in action: Don,t...

Is it true? Plants vs Algae

Goodaye Lateral line, very good article you sourced there. Our local (the swan river) has an algae bloom every year and we loose thousands of fish to the dreaded green algae. I wonder if the local water management knows of this remedy, I might have to send them an email. Good one Lateral...

OK, what do I do now

Thanks Suemack and Lordmoose for the advise. I had done pretty much what you said moose about using half dose of the whitespot treatment as I,ve got a cory in there. I don,t want to put any salt for that reason. I did a small waterchange when I treated and I,ll do another one when I retreat...

Is it true? Plants vs Algae

Hi Aquaqueen, I posted a reply for you under "the birds are eating my fish" The same remedy I suggested for keeping the birds at bay also keeps the algea at bay as well, its worth considering if you plan to have the pond for quite a few years.

Help! The birds are eating my fish!

Hi there, my brother has a 30 foot pond full of big Koi. He used to loose a lot of fish to the birds. You could put shadecloth over the water but it dosen,t look good and its hard to see the fish through it. He now has enclosed the whole pond inside an aviary like setting (made with shadecloth)...

Allusive Life, more like Illusional life! Comon guys I thought I posted under Emergencies, not Bitcheness. No one has offered any practical advise yet. My fish are still dying, lost 2 more last night. I have started to treat for whitespot so I hope thats the problem. The nitrites have gone up...

OK, what do I do now

Hi SMB, mate it takes a lot to get me pissed off and getting friendly advice does not make me angry even if I don,t agree with you. All help is welcome, as you said its a illimination process. My test kits are new and the LFS confirmed my readings so I,m pretty sure the water is ok now. I did...

    Fish Murderer

Hi everyone, thanks for all the encouragement. Just as a note about the first LFS where I made my first purchase. He pulled out a book, showed me the nitrogen cycle, told me I had to wait 3-4 weeks etc and would only sell me 2 fish, a pair of platys. Thats why I called myself a murderer because...

OK, what do I do now

Hi Bigfish, I found out yesterday from the LFS I haven,t been putting salt in the tank, it was only a declorinator so I don,t think thats the problem. Had my water double checked by the LFS and he says its fine. He seems to think it could be a fungal parasite attacking the fish but dosen,t want...

    Tanked's new Tank 55g

Nice tank Tanked. The colourfull rocks on the lefthand side, where did they come from? They look just like the ones I put in my tank and they came from marble bar in australia. I was wondering if they are a problem for the fish with minerals etc leaching into the water.

OK, what do I do now

If you read my first post: Fish Murderer, in the newbie section you will know what I did. I,m trying to stop the remainer of my fish from going the same way but they are still dying. The tank is 3 weeks old, no ammonia, no nitrites and a small amount (5ppm)of nitrates. PH is 7.Volume is 140 lt...

    Fish Murderer

OK,OK why did I not join a forum earlier and find out why I was going to kill my fish a merciless death. As newbies do (stupid impatient newbies that is) I went out and bought 30 fish to put in my 1 week old aquarium. Everything looked great for about a week and then things went horribly wrong...
