    High temperature

If you need to cool down the tank, put ice cubes in a plastic baggy and float it in the tank. I've also heard of blowing a fan across the top of the water. Just keep track of the temp. A water change will help, too. I don't think it harms the fish. Good luck, Valerie :)

    Never Ending Battle

Well, that's good news! As far as plants go, first you need make sure you have adequate lighting for them to grow. Fluorescent, at least. Twisted Vallis, Java Fern, Dwarf Swordplant, Hairgrass, and Fanwort are all nice with different textures. Try keeping them in pots this time...

    need help again

The grey spot sounds like a body fungus or some kind of bacterial infection. It sounds like when your cory got white spot( Ick, I'm guessing?) it got a secondary infection that caused the body fungus. That's what I'm guessing. You might want to start looking for some medicine if you already...

Need to raise buffering capacity (alkalinity)

Yesterday, it was at 6.4. I need to get at 7.0 because my starter fish are platies, the cichlids that are coming need 6.8-8.0 and I think that's what the Sailfin Pleco needs, too. I thought I could keep it simple at 7.0. Also, I bought this powder called Ph 7.0 but that doesn't seem to be...

Tell me if this is a good tank

If you really want a cichlid, I recommend getting a Jade eyed cichlid, also known as Blue eyed cichlid. (Archocentrus Spilurus) It's actually a very good community fish, and is only territorial when spawning. Males are 4 1/2 inches and more colorful, females are 3 inches. If you get Discus...

What is the quietest airpump I can buy......

I bought my Tetratec air pump before that lady went on the morning show. And I gotta tell you, I'm really happy with it. It's a very nice air pump that has a rubber bottom so there virtually no vibration and noise. please don't burn me at the stake, Valerie :*)

    live foods for cichlids

Hey all, I was wondering what I should feed the Jade eyed (blue eyed) cichlids for their live food. Should it be something small like Daphnia, or something a lot bigger like guppies? thanks a bunch, Valerie :D

    Never Ending Battle

I found a product that really helps to keep down all the chemicals. It's called Kordon AmQuel plus. It's a great water conditioner. The cloudy water sounds like you have some bacteria growth. That will help to combat the chemicals.(and the plants will to, of course.) Hope I was of some...

Need to raise buffering capacity (alkalinity)

Hey all, I was doing a water check and my alkalinity is 80 ppm and I need to raise it to at least 120 ppm so I can get a steady ph reading.(right?) Is there any product that will raise my buffering capacity so I can get to 7.0 ph? Hope I know what I'm talking about :look: , Valerie

    Water hardness

I've been cycling my new tank for about two days now, and I really want to put the starter fish in next week to speed up the cycle. I checked the water quality this afternoon and it said the water hardness was 250 ppm. Is this right? Is ppm the same as dH degrees? If so, I need to get up to...

    Fishless cycle

oh, thank Mooga! I also just read an article that said if you add some zebra danios, who are very hardy, that they will start the cycling. I wonder if I should just add 2 zebra danios? Valerie

    Fishless cycle

Well, that won't work! I've already added my water conditioner that removes ammonia. great. Is there any other way? Like a fish cycle? I feel so stupid. I did all this research and still managed to mess it up. Valerie

    Fishless cycle

oh, fish poopy. well, guess I won't be getting my new fish, then. :-( unless, she'll hold it for me for 3 weeks... Are there any cleaner ways to put Ammonia/Nitrite in the tank? :( Valerie

    Fishless cycle

I've been reading around, and it seems like you have to cycle for a month before you can add your fishies. I was wondering what the minimum cycling time would be for a 29 gallon tank.(If that makes a difference.) I have some fish coming in 1 to 2 weeks and I want to put them in the new tank...

How many pounds does it take to get...

Hey all. I don't know how many pounds of gravel to get for my 29 gallon tank! The gravel I'm buying is about the size of a pebble, so larger than your normal gravel. Is there some kind of equation like, lengthxwidth divided by 10 equals how many pounds, or something like that? :/...

    help needed A>S>A>P

    Digital thermometer

I got this digital thermometer with a tank packet, but it doesn't say where to put it. If I put it on the outside of the tank, it would be affected by air temperature. If I put it on the inside, I'd have to put it on the back of the tank because of the adhesive. How would I read it with...

    Danio w/ bad tail :-(

You do need to treat this, but isolating the victim isn't quite right. You need to isolate the bullies. This way, they learn not to mess with him and you have time for the victim fish to heal. Considering how many bullies there are, you might have to get a tank divider or a seperate, smaller...

    Brand new tank!

It's kind of bittersweet. I had pay for the whole thing with my own car savings. :-( Now, I might have to buy a Gremlin or something. But, it's all worth it to have a great tank with happy fish. :D Valerie P.S. I've noticed, looking at other tanks, that they have a lot more...

After shopping around, I decided to get a 29 gallon tank with a hood, light fixture and fluorescent bulb. Oh, but that's not all. It also had a Penguin Bio-wheel 170 gph, a new heater that is very nice, and a digital thermometer! It was the best deal I've ever seen! I got all of that for...

    Cichlid food

I was looking through different cichlid foods, and found that you can get sticks, pellets, discs, and flakes. So, now I don't know what to get for my South American Plumbhead/Archocentrus Spilurus. My pleco and the crayfish eat discs, the mystery fish eats flakes. Should I get pellets or...
