I think I've managed to photograph each of them now. It's not easy because two of them look rather similar and they keep swapping places. Can you have a stab at sexing them from these photographs?

I haven't got an isolation chamber yet. Is there an easy improvised method of doing this? He / she did swim quite well for a short way but came to rest on the bogwood again. I'll try to film / photograph the others.

I have. They're usually round and separate but on the other hand, there aren't many close up images. Some do appear to have a glue-like substance between them and be laid in mounds.

Only three small pest snails. Do these look like their eggs? I know that barb eggs should be separate and round but I did read that they sometimes lay them in cabomba too.

We have eggs on the cabomba. I can't quite believe that adding cold water did this. I thought that fish were meant to be prepared for breeding for about a month. We only bought the fish a few days ago.

Why, out of interest (other than because I have no experience!)? I presume she'd need to be transfered to a (nonexistent) breeding tank ...? Oh, and they're still at it. I'm currently doing a roughly 50% water change in my tank. The thing I don't understand is why it's ok to add cold water from the tap, particularly at this time of year when it really is quite chilled. It's not as though the water heats up quickly, particularly with the heater switched off...
