    I wont repeat the advice already given about not having to replace the media...... However I think it's unfair to slag off the Juwel Filter system in the way some members do....... It does work and well in my opinion. Back in the day when I first got into keeping Tanganyikan Cichlids I used an...

    A Big Bully

    About 250 lts..... Got a photo? Cichlids of any type will spar for the best spot in a new set up, especially a big one. Will settle after a while. A Mbuna set up should be well stocked with similar sized fish so dominance is controlled

    Refining My African Cichlid Tank

    I keep Lake Tanganyika Cichlids. I don't use salts. I use coral gravel as substrate. Most LFS that I use acclimatize their stock in local water before sale to lessen shock so a 7.5 would be ok. Remember, water stability is far more important than super high ph induced by buffering. Others...

    Battery Powered Gravel Cleaners

    Ha ha ha ha ha :lol: I tried one of these things in the early days in a well planted community tank. What a train wreck!!! Guiding it around while keeping the capture net (sock) in the water turned my tank into a washing machine :rolleyes: What it collected in a 5 minute session I now...

    Fis For Turning Substrate?

    A pair of chop-sticks are good for turning over the sand to release gasses in any tank. As your original post does not give any idea as to what fish stock you have then it's near impossible to recommend a fish but if it's a community tank then Gobies are a great excavator.

    Changing From A Fluval 305 To 405...

    at the end of the day whether you have one filter or 6 they will only produce enough bacteria between them to cope with the fish stock you have so if the filter you are running now copes comfortably then why waste the electricity?

    Changing From A Fluval 305 To 405...

    As far as is it worth the upgrade then ask yourself...... Does my current 305 cope with my fish stock and maintain constant zero readings for ammonia and nitrite. Male Or Female?

    Far be it for me to go up against 'that Tolak guy' but I would have thought that as male Betta do not tolerate their own kind male guppy come pretty close to be mistaken for another small male....... In a community tank maybe but in a species tank???

    Scratches =[

    This is what happens when the wrong thing is used. Green washing up pads are very abrasive and should not be used as they are for pots and pans! The sponge ones with the white scourer are ok as they are for non stick surfaces. But one has to ask why?? The cost of a proper aquarium safe...

    Scratches =[

    Not quite sure why it goes black between the glass and the sand but it does. Sunlight does it. So you lost a couple of fish, not good! 9 times out of 10 it's water quality. It is absolutely imperative that nitrite and ammonia are at a complete zero, not .25 but zero. Beta's don't like strong...

    Scratches =[

    Hi, sand against glass is a killer for scratching. :unsure: I don't know the details of your tank but can it be turned around, ie. take off the background and make the back the front? As far as the bubbles under the sand are concerned these can be got rid off by gently stirring the sand with...

    Is Coral Sand Worth Using?

    I assume you are considering 'Old World' (ie African and not South American)) Cichlids? If so then adding coral sand would be a bonus along with rocks of course. I personally use coral gravel without sand although the gravel produces it's own sand over time as in the wild.

    Cyle Not Kickstarting ....newbie Question

    Rocks

    At the end of the day, to boil or not to boil? do what you feel happiest with. For me it would be a good scrub in warm water, rinse in warm water then pour a kettle's worth of boiling water over them. Leave for a while then in they go. Check for rust marks which indicates iron......

    Fluval 240L Leds ?
