    Rainbow Fish Not Spawning!

The yarn should lessen the loss from other fish. With nothing to offer cover for the eggs they are likely to get eaten. I'm more surprised they will even spawn without some moss or yarn. Rainbows will literally spawn then turn around and try to eat their eggs. A proper spawning media like plants...

    Rainbow Fish Not Spawning!

A regular light schedule will be fine for rainbow eggs. I personally would breed them in the community tank. I've never spawned mine in their own tank. The adults will eat their eggs just as readily as any other fish.

    Changing First Filter

Cartridge will last a lot longer then a month. Replacing filters on a time interval is just a marketing gimmick. I still have the original meida/sponges on some of my 6 year old filters. Just clean them regularly and reuse them.

    My Budget Tank To Date

Very nice tank so far, I guess budget is a bit relative lol. Far as CO2 goes IME either use nothing or use pressurized. Its always been one or the other for me, yeast was a couple months venture and a big waste even on a tank half that size. A yeast system can easily generate enough pressure for...

    Dripping Water Into Tank

Using untreated water at that rate is not really any concern. I do 50% water changes weekly using untreated tap water on most my tanks and my fish too busy breeding I have a hard time keeping up. Only tanks I am careful on are tanks with very young fry(SA cichlids and stuff). First thing you...

    Hardest Fish To Breed?

Quiet a few fish either don't breed in captivity or do it very very rarely. Sometimes farms use hormones to induce spawning. Often with fish cost is relative to breeding, raising difficulty, or rarity. Denison barbs would definitely be a challenge. There are always zebra plecos too... doubt...

    Rainbow Fish Not Spawning!

You have no spawning area for them that is why they are not spawning. You need to buy a roll of yarn, preferably black, and make a spawning mop for them. Another option is live plants but collecting eggs will be a challenge. My rainbows have always preferred their yarn mops over any plant in...

Crushed flake will be fine for most common livebearer fry.

    55G Stocking Question?

BP are a hybrid making it very hard to say how they will behave as they mature. They are a mix of 3 or so different fish that have a range of sizes and temperaments. They may work fine with GBR and not bother each other or they may kill them one day.

    Rainbow Fish Not Spawning!

What are you using for spawning? Rainbows should spawn very easily in a community or alone. You should be using a mop and feeding them a good stable food with frozen bloodworms or live blackworms 1-2 times a week. Regular water changes as well. They will spawn early in the morning and rarely at...

    55G Stocking Question?

Just to toss it out there... thats a lot of cichlids in a 55g especially with Bloodparrots being unpredictable as they age. GBR are quite shy compared to large cichlids.

    60 Gallon Planted Lighting

108 watts over a 45 is pushing it without CO2, depending on the tank depth abit... You are going to need heavy fertilizers either way. If you don't stay on top of establishing the tank and keeping up on care it will become an algae mess.

Are They Doing A Spawning Ritual?

Agreed many fish use the side by side shaking as a type of competition. You will likely see it often or occasionally depending on the species and its nothing to be concerned about.

Aquarium Stand Got Wet And Expanded! Urgent..maybe

agreed. We call it pressboard. Its not the best thing to make tank stands out of since it commonly expands when it gets wet. A tiny bit of expanding I would not be concerned about.

Types Of Sand, Cleaning Sand, And Filters

Thats awesome. Main issue with sand is when the impeller orientation. The orientation changes depending on the filter. If the impeller is sitting with the blades on top it leaves the motor socket that the magnetic part fits in as a hole. This is where sand poses a problem. If it gets to the...

Types Of Sand, Cleaning Sand, And Filters

that one should be okayish, but its a poor filter to start with IMO. Never had that exact brand so hard to say. I know the whisper intank HOB like that there is no way to clean the impeller which is the main issue with sand. You would have to check it to know for sure tho.

Types Of Sand, Cleaning Sand, And Filters

You can buy any general sand at a home improvement store. I personally prefer general all-purpose sand which is a non-seived sand so has everything from fine sand to small pea rocks which gives it a natural look that I love. You can use play sand or pool filter sand as well, both are very fine...

    What Is This Fish?

will need better pictures then that. I would lean most towards a hillstream loach or species of garra. Its hard to tell but the pectoral fins look to big to be a pleco or CAE.

Can Salt Be Used For Medication?

Salt should never be used long term unless it is required for specific species. Salt can be used temporarily as a tonic and stress reducer but I am usually against using it as a stand alone treatment.

    Mathematicians Required, Dechlorinator Dilution Calculation!

They all contain sodium thiosulfate others just have additional ingredients. Most brands are pretty tight about not saying what they contain, Prime for example. For dealing with ammonia released from chloramines most conditioners just change NH3 to NH4 since thats the easiest way to deal with...

    Mathematicians Required, Dechlorinator Dilution Calculation!

18-19:1 ratio is correct. Honestly tho its really hard to overdose dechlor. Your talking like 5x the normal doseage or more. I know standard dechlor (sodium thiosulfate) is not anything to worry about. I mix it from dry occasionally but I rarely use dechlor anyway. When I do I don't measure it...

    Electricity Free Tank

For money saving you should be looking for locally bred fish, DIY, and used equipment. TBH fish keeping isn't an expensive hobby if you do it right. Electricity cost has never been a concern of mine and my tanks run over 300 watts of light alone. You can DIY equipment and what not easily to get...

    Electricity Free Tank

Sounds like an algae adventure. lowest powered tank I have done is 30 watt planted tank that I just left stagnant but I don't really recommend it. Solar powered thing I do think is a bit silly unless you want it to be energy free simply to be energy free and not to save money on electricity...
