    Will School Fish Breed Unwantedly?

Hi all. I recently came into possession of a 20 gal tank that I plan on setting up and cycling soon. I have a betta in a ten gallon that I plan to move and have been wanting to get some tankmates for awhile now. I was planning on 6 cory cats and possibly african dwarfs frogs or trying out...

    Bettas And African Dwarf Frogs?

essjay, did they only grab at the betta at feeding time? Because Moby, my betta, is a little piggy and it would probably end up being easier if I just separated them anyways. I usually just scoop him into the plastic cup he came in when I clean out the tank, and he doesn't run away or anything...

    Bettas And African Dwarf Frogs?

It's so sad that african dwarf frogs get subjected to much the same treatment bettas do :( I've been wanting one for awhile and I was wondering if it could coexist with a betta in both terms of temperament and environment, and if so, is there any special way to care for them? My betta, along...

    Sick Betta

Hi all, so my poor little betta has been under the weather for a while now. I noticed he wasn't looking too good and acting a bit lethargic a few weeks ago, and the symptoms seemed to point to an internal bacteria infection. He was getting bloated quite easily and on top of that he also had the...

    Crowntail Bloated & Discolored

Hey, thanks for replying. :) I'm keeping a look out for dropsy, I'm really hoping that's not the case. Just to let you know, the myth that wild bettas live in puddles is just that - a myth. Bettas naturally live in paddy fields which you can see, although shallow are quite large. The whole...

    Crowntail Bloated & Discolored

Hi all, so maybe about a week ago I noticed my male crowntail looking a little bloated. I gave him some pea and didn't feed him the next day. He still seemed bloated so I just started feeding him a single pellet in the mornings, skipping a day here and there. It hasn't gone down and if anything...

    Confronting Ignorant Shopkeepers?

Ugh, the dreaded pet shops. So, I recently found a pet store close to me that I was pretty excited to find at first. The birds aren't crowded? Gasp! The guinea pigs and rabbits have nice open pens? *shock*...they don't sell small rodents in mass quantities?! Is this too good to be true?...of...

    Driftwood?

I think I prolly found it like 6 years ago. It's just been sitting on a shelf as part of my rock display. It has a nice shape and I wanted to add it since I don't really have money to add things to my tank right now. But I think I'll just leave it be.

Determining Betta Temperament Before Adding Tankmates?

Thanks, I've done the mirror before but did it again just to check. If I remember correctly, when I did it before, he just flared up kinda halfheartedly and then got bored. This time he did a full flare (what a handsome boy) and got pretty agitated, but I feel that also might just be because of...

Determining Betta Temperament Before Adding Tankmates?

Hi all, So I just upgraded my male betta to a 14 gal tank, and was interested in adding some tankmates/clean up crew. I'm looking into cory catfish. Is there any way to test a bettas temperament before actually adding the new fish? I don't wanna get some and then be stuck with them if he won't...

    Driftwood?

Yeah, I was just going to ask about that. Is it because of the salt?

    Driftwood?

Ok, I boiled it for about 4 hours last night and let it sit overnight. It's completely waterlogged. While I was boiling it though, the water turned really brown. Would it do anything just sitting in the aquarium water?

    Driftwood?

Hi, I was wondering if it would be okay to add driftwood to my betta's 14 gal tank? It's not store bought (found on a beach a few years ago), but it's been in boiling water for several hours. It's a fairly small piece, and can easily fit in a hand. Would this be okay, or should I not? Thanks :)

    Reducing Filter Current?

Thanks, I'll see what I can do. Also, would adding some of his current tank water into the new tank be beneficial?

    Reducing Filter Current?

Alright, I'll def get a liquid test then! I'm one of the many who have kept bettas in less than ideal conditions, but I'm learning! I've had him in the 1.5 for a few months now just because I haven't had to money to buy anything bigger (I already had the tank from a few years ago), so I'm sure...

    Reducing Filter Current?

I'm pretty sure it was still pretty wet. I need to buy testing strips tomorrow.

    Reducing Filter Current?

I don't know. It's just whatever type of filter is built into the Biocube?

    Reducing Filter Current?

So, I've recently acquired 14 gallon Biocube tank with a built in filter. My betta is currently in a 1.5 gal (pathetic I know) without a filter, and I'm worried that the new filter current might be too strong for my him. Does anyone have suggestions on how to reduce the current? Also, I got the...
