Is it true that corydoras are air breathers and therefore shouldnot be in a tank over 60cm high ? Mine is now a 90cm high aquarium!! :sick:

:good: Thankyou Miss Wiggle for your practically perfect advice. Just done this today. Had read your advice on a similar thread and found the 2 net trick in half the water worked really well. The only difference was we thought we were supposed to acclimatise them so put in a bucket for 40 mins...

We have taken the plunge and got a 260l tank to give them lots of swimming room. It seems quite enormous compared to our 60 litre tank. Just need to swap over filter and current fish and then wait until all well before buying some denisons barbs. How will I know which species they will...

So sorry for you and Oliver, you spend so much time giving your advice on here - it seems so unfair all the setbacks you have had. Hope you have managed to get a new tank and your filters are happily rehomed in it asap.

Hello, I think, though am fairly new to all this, that if you move the rest of your mature filter from your old tank with the remaining fish then the tank should be immediatley cycled. This is because the majority of the bacteria numbers needed are on the filters. I do not know what percentage...

Do you have to change the white thin poly pads that go at the top of the filer pads in a juwel system or just rinse those as well?

Fully agree the above comments. We are unfortunatley cycling with fish due to bad advise and finding this forum too late. We have lost 3 fish and had 2 very unhappy children each time.The rest of the time I feel guilty about poisoning my fish and obsessively checking and rechecking water...

Things sem to be on the up as our ammonia has been 0 ((well more yellow than green on the API colour chart) for the last 2 days and the nitrites 0.05. We have been doing very regular water changes and the ammonia has never been more than 0.5 when tested.....hope we are on the homeward run now!!

We would like a snowball plec but our ph is 7.5. We run the tank at 24 degrees for our cory's. The tropical fish finder website recomends ph up to 7.0 and does not recommend above this however our LFS says should be ok. Any thoughts, fairly new to this and don't want it to die soon after...

Just got a small airstone and my fish love it. My little pitbull plec gets as low as possible to the stone ,sucks on the plastic tubing upside down and hangs his body in the bubbles. The albino corys swim into the bubbles and surf up them continually !! :nod:

If you knew what tank you were going to get and get some appropriate filter sponges and just put them in your existing tank next to the filter or air stone, would they colonise over a few weeks. You could then put them in your new tank when you eventually got it. Would this work??

Thanks waterdrop. We are in a similar position in a fish in cycle - bad advice from LFS saying using filter start would work fine. We have been doing 40 % water changes as our ammonia has been 0.1 - 0.4, nitrite 0.05. At what point do we reduce or stop the water changes - we don't wantto lose...

We are one of the many who were sadly misinformed by lfs and cycling with fish...including albino (I think bronze)corys.They said that ph would also be ok...ours is about 7.5. We have lost 2 of the cory's - I am sure due to water quality,despite 40% water changes on one occasion the ammm levels...

Many members mention hospital tanks/quarantine tanks. Are these tanks that are always ready to take your fish if ill,with water and filters running all the time? If this is the case how can they remain cycled if they usually don't have fish in to provide the ammonia to feed the...

New myself, but I do know that what you need is lots of water changes with dechlorinator of course!
