Thanks, the split was due to me wanting to be home when the lights were on, ie the morning and evening. I'll change it to 8 continuous hours in the afternoon/evening.

I currently have the photoperiod on my tank set to 8 hours and this is split: 5 hours - 7am-12pm 3 hours - 6pm-9pm My questions are is the photoperiod sufficient for a planted aquarium and am I ok to split the times or should I be looking to have a continuous 8 hours? Cheers Tom.

Go to you local Aquatics shop and ask them for some used filter media, that should knock a good few weeks off the cycle. I went to Maidenhead Aquatics and they were happy to give me a bag full.

I've been looking around at the type of plants I want for my new aquarium and have come across plants by Tropica. Many of the sites advertise that Tropica Plants are superior but I wanted people's advice if this was indeed the case.
