Will African Clawed Toad Eat Live Fish?

Thankyou for that! I'm a bit supprised as I've had it in a communal tank for about 3 years and it is only the last week or 2 that i've noticed fish going missing. I've set my spare tank up for it so hopefully saved a few lives Thanks again

Will African Clawed Toad Eat Live Fish?

Hi all I have a problem with fish dissappearing all of a sudden. I am inclined to blame a rather large african clawed albino toad as i have seen it eat a dead fish in the past but it would appear that something is killing and eating my other fish. Has anyone else come accross a similar...

Is Your Aquarium Yours Or Do You Share The Hobby?

Mine are pretty much my own until it comes to the layout.... if we go to a LFS I get told which ornaments, plants etc i should spend my money on. Then when we get home i get told which ones to change, move etc. Never any input when it comes to cleaning and water changes  although she does...

    Platty Breeding Tank?

Thanks for the help and advice guys.... the main problem I have is that i'm out of the house for at least 12 hours each day and then again sometimes later on, so i suppose it's more than likely they could give birth and all the fry could be eaten within that time... maybe a divider would be the...

    Platty Breeding Tank?

OOOH... I'm getting quite excited now lol.... best get my breeding net out at the ready. Would it be best to transfer just the fry into the net or would you put the mother in there too for a start? (assuming I manage to see any of them)

    Platty Breeding Tank?

Can't see any signs of spiking scales... they do seem a little paler round the widest part of their tummies when i catch them in the right light but nothing really noticeable and they are eating very well..... they are probably the most active in the tank at feeding time. The tanks been set up...

    Platty Breeding Tank?

That was fun  lol... couldn't get a decent shot of them so thought i'd try a quick video on my phone Fingers crossed that it works :/ Only 2 females made an appearance but i think it's clear that the smaller one of the 3 is the male (the one doing the chasing)

    Platty Breeding Tank?

Well I have 3 larger fish with the larger anal fin and one quite a bit smaller with a smaller pointed anal fin.... I have noticed the smaller one chasing the other three around quite alot just lately so i assume I have one male and three female. Water temp is a steady 26 degC.... good water...

    Platty Breeding Tank?

I have in my community tank 3 female orange platties and one male, they have been in there for about 4 months and as yet i don't think they have bred or at least i haven't seen them. I have a spare 75 ltr tank and am wondering if i set it up just for the platties if this will increase their...

    Sexing Fish

I guess this has been asked before but i can't find an answer Is there a general guideline for telling the sex of fish? I have quite a range of different species all bought as young in 2 tanks.... I've sat and studied all of them and appart from a size difference in some of them i can't see...

    Cloudy Water Problems

My predicament now is what to do next I could probably re-home the pleco and the loach? leaving the goldy and the angel as these are the two main ones that the neighbours lad is interested in. Would these two be ok in this tank for a year or two until the lads interest has probably worn off...

    Cloudy Water Problems

Managed to get some pictures of sorts, not very good but the best i can do with my equipment  One of the loach??, the other one of the two is about the same size as this and the same markings but is bigger round its girth... almost looks a bit bloated, I've treated with revitaliser...

    Cloudy Water Problems

Cleaned the filter in tank water and added a smaller second one that's not been used for a while The test kit is a liquid one I'd hate to have to get rid of any of the fish as they were the neighbours son's and he does visit them occasionally ... the goldfish was his first pet when he was...

    Cloudy Water Problems

Thanks for the reply.... the nitrite is the worrying bit... could this be caused by over cleaning. the plec I have in at the moment is always active on the side of the tank although it's not a BN (not sure what it is) as are the loaches, well i think they are loach  (is there a sucker...

Is This Normal For Clown Loach?

It's a 50 gal tank which i've upgraded to from a 20 gal. I used the water from my old tank and the filter from there alongside a larger new filter so I figured it was just like doing a 60% water change Also used my existing rocks and plants. Monitored the water for a couple of weeks and...

Is This Normal For Clown Loach?

I've recently added a couple of clown loach to my tank and they seem to be fine 90% of the time. However one of them seems to like playing dead... it tends to burrow right under a rock and lay there (usually on it's side) for up to a couple of hours at a time I'm wondering if this is normal...

The Cost Of Running A Tank

I thought our bill was far too high so...
