Gravels pretty much gravel lolz I use topfin myself, but only because I go to petsmart and it's the first type of gravel I saw so I bought it :lol: Gravel doesn't make a difference, but if your going to add rocks I just was told (like 4 minutes ago) that you should boil the rocks, but be carful...

hmmm hardness doesn't really make a differnece to most fish, so I'd say go for the well... and the clown loach doesn't really "clean" the tank, but they do dig through the substrate and eat the exese bits of food in it :P and if you want to keep your guppy babbies I'd say get a seperate mabye 10...

Not at all! I'm putting around 43 fish into a 55 gallon tank... you're think more along the lines of the rule of thumb, 1" of the fishes maximum size per gallon of water, HA! Think of it like this, goldfish need 20 gallons of water per fish and they can get upto a foot, where as neons grow only...

0.10 in which? tap water or well water... actually it doesn't matter really because you do need SOME ammonia in the tank to help cycle it, it will eventually disapate... So what kind of fish are you looking at keeping :lol: you didn't answer that one :D

Childs play sand or my normal river rock gravel? I'm aware that sad is very nice and would make it easier for loaches to dig around in... But is Childs Play Sand safe for my fish? Will it effect my readings at all? Any advice would be apriciated

Ok well go to your local fish store and they should be able to recommend a good PH buffer... you want one around 7.0ph So ask them for a Ph buffer at 7.0 and they should have one in stock... a buffer means that your PH level will generally fall into this range of say 7.0-7.2 with the chemical...

That is true... however if he's/she's planning on keeping fish from the lake behind him/her, then a bit of non-sessile bacteria may be beficial... Hell I say you chose what you want to do after seeing what Inane had to say :lol:

Before you go crazy here with a hose, might I suggest buying a python? It's a specialized gravel vaccum that works off water pressure, you attach it to your tap and it will suck water up or if you turn a knob on it another way, it puts water back into the aquarium, no mess and minimal fuss :D...

guppys do like salt... but only because they give birth so often *damn fish get more action than I do* :lol: anyways, salt might raise/lower your PH. Not 100% on that though, your best bet is to research on the net and ask your local fish store :P good luck d:D

you could try a yoyo botai :lol: always a funny fish to watch... but I don't know their max size... a 10gallon might not be big enough though I haven't see one that large

I'd say a fluval 305 canaster filter, it's for up to 70 gallons but if your tanks 47 gallons, then a 70gallon filter will do wonders for the clarity, I currently have 110gallons of filtration for my 55gallon, over filtering is never a bad thing... unless your fish are extremly small (such as fry...

you can use lake water... but I don't advise using it for ALL of the tank... I'd say get a small pale, like a gallon or so, and use that, it should supply alot of bacteria, but still treat the water and use well water.

ok... well I don't know then in regards to the nitrate because my afircan cichlid tanks nitrate lvl changes rapidly... I don't suggest using the chemicals though as the are harsh for your fish. I'm going to try using probably 1/3 of my 55 gallon tanks water in it to restart it and I'll post to...

I don't know exactly what you mean by "drilled" but you could always get a rena or fluval canister filiter as these both are externals, they run into the back of the tank with tubes so you should be good :D :lol: good luck oh and I'm not familiar with jewel rio 180... how many gallons are we...

you could try a school of zebra danios, they always look nice :D other than that some cory cats are always good :P Also... most tanks do look bare but keep in mind that even dwarf gouramis get to be around 4"... a school of 6-8 zebras would as some activity to your tank, but you might notice...
