    0.25 Ammonia

I've been having a similar problem with ammonia in a new tank with old media.   Best option is the add Seachem Prime.  This will neutralize the ammonia and make it safe for you fish by converting it into ammonium.  This means there will still be plenty of food available for the bacteria in your...

Strange Cycle Problems In Established Filter (New Tank)

Thanks for the reply snazy.   I was a bit worried that 10days is too long for a mini-cycle.  But I guess even if the cycle has crashed, it will eventually pick up again.   I am continuing to do the water changes.  Today I ordered some Seachem Prime, which should be here within a day or two -...

Strange Cycle Problems In Established Filter (New Tank)

Hi all,   I have a bit of a problem with an ammonia spike that I just can't get seem to end.   I used to have a 200L tank, stocked with 3 Angels, 6 Mollys and a Bristlenose.  The tank was filtered with a Fluval 305.   About 2 weeks ago I changed the tank for a 100L and restocked it with new...

Just to confirm this. You guys reckon it could be parasites even though there is no white or stringy poo?

    Is This Fish Tb?

Thanks loraxchick. A few of the symptoms I forgot to mention are: pop-eye (both eyes) loss of scales sores appearing and disappeaing on body Would these symptoms also suggest parasites?

    Is This Fish Tb?

Thanks for the link. I don't think there is any way I am going to be able to get kanamycin, as all antibiotics are prescription only in the UK. I don't believe a vet is going to issue me a prescprition based on me saying my fish might have TB. I have about 14 Mollys left. One or two aren't...

    Is This Fish Tb?

Thanks for the advice colleen. I'm keep well away from the water and using long sleeved rubber gloves when I do go in there. I'm thinking about talking the vets to see what they have to say. But I can't see them giving me antibiotics just on my say so...

    Is This Fish Tb?

I haven't treated yet. Aside from water changes and melafix. From what I understand Fish TB needs a pretty srong antibiotic, and those can't be obtained in the UK without prescription - so I'm kinda hoping someone here can give advice regarding treatment.

    Is This Fish Tb?

I posted a question in another thread, but I guess I really should make my own thread rather than high-jacking someone elses. I came here to post a thread as my fish have the following symptoms! Progressive thinness Clamped fins Skeletal deformity Curved Spine A little red around gills Scales...

Please Help! Could Be Fish Tb?

I came here to post a thread as my fish have these exact symptoms! I don't want to high-jack this thread...but it seems a bit crazy to post what is essentially a duplicate thread! My fish are suffering from these exact symptoms. I am losing 2 or 3 fish per week. All my fish are Mollys...

    Fish Tank Really Smells?

You gotta remember that a fish stomach is around the same size as its eye. Also, fish have a very, very low metabolism, the don't need much food because the are cold-blooded and do not have to generate body heat like we do. We need a huge amount of energy in order to create body heat. Fish...

    Fish Tank Really Smells?

One of my tanks recently started smelling pretty bad! I stopped feeding the fish for 3 days and the smell went away. I was over feeding them. Now I feed them a lot less and the smell hasn't returned.

Moving My Tank Today And I'm A Little Confused

I think you are over complicating things. I have moved my tanks about 6 times over the past few years. Here's what I do: 1) Put the fish into a bag / bucket / container (it really doesn't matter which) containing tank water. 2) Completely empty the tank. 3) Move the tank 4) Fill the...

    Bristlenose Okay With Brackish?

I have a bunch of mollies in my 200ltr tank. I'm aware that mollies can often do better with a brackish setup - especially black mollies. However I also have a bristlenose pleco in the tank, would she be ok if I converted to brackish?

Blue 'moonlight' Bulbs, Will It Cause Algae Growth?

Thanks for the replies. Reason I was considering leaving it on - is that the tank is in my daughters room, and it could have been used as a 'night light' if it wouldn't have caused problems.

Blue 'moonlight' Bulbs, Will It Cause Algae Growth?

If I were to leave a blue moonlight bulb on over night (everynight) would it cause an algae bloom? Would the algae benefit from the light in that spectrum range?

    How Fast Do Mollies Breed?

Thanks Ludwig. This time of the year it's pretty much impossible to keep the tank below 26C. I actually left the heater switched off for 4 days without realizing it, and the temp never even got to 25C in that time. So it looks like the Mollies will end up having a lot of fry. The tank isn't...

Really Weird Nitrite Problem! 0.0 To 1.0 In 2Hrs!

I wondered if it might be a mini-cycle. But I just don't see that 17 mollies could create 2.0ppm of nitite in a 200ltr tank inside of 3hrs. In addition the 405 filter is perfectly fine - whilst that was running on its own, there was no nitrite build up at all. As soon as the 305 switched back...

    New Mollies Swimming Vertically

I should have looked into that more - apparently the Jewel isn't even a rift lake cichlid. So that's a no go. As for WC fish - that's not an essential requirement, and non of my current stock are WC. I'm just interested to see what sort of malawi's are available, and if I see something I like...

It's a real shame that Malawi's are so difficult to get hold of. At the moment I've got almost enough Malawi's in my tank - though I'd like to introduce a few more. Problem with that is my current stock have become fairly territorial, and attack anything put in with them. If I were to get...
