ah right, i doubt you will get a big eheim for that money, you'd struggle even to get a classic. Ive only used eheims so couldnt comment on other brands :)

thermo filters have a built in heater, the ecco's are small canisters and the professional come in 1,2 and 3. pro3 being the latest ones. is your tank planted? if your aiming for the 10x rule you want a 2074,2076,2078, 28080,2180 etc, but they are big and quite expensive. if not after that...

plants first as you can drain the tank down to substrate level then its easier to plant. and you wont be stressing the fish with you hands in the tank with plants going in and out.

a fire extinquisher is no different to a "kit" they are both a bottle that you screw a reg onto and then connect the tube and diffuser. i would also dose ferts after each water change otherwise halfway through the week you are removing/diluting them.

yes, fish have efficient digestive systems, they dont need feeding everyday they are scavengers. also keeps the tank alot cleaner and never have problem with snails.

you can pick timers up from supermarkets for a couple of quid :) feeding will be fine, i only ever feed my fish once or twice a week.

I couldnt tell you, ill have a look on the water report tomorrow. ive always rinsed the filter under the tap, and one day when changing the water in the evening realised i had no declorinator left, had no bad effects, even with shrimp so never bother from then on.

i havent used de-chlorinator in a long time, even washed filter sponges and buckets under the tap and never had a problem with ammonia after. fish have always been healthey, never had disease or random deaths. Most are at least 3 years old now.

In what way, Im saying high nitrate may not be so bad, plus nitrate test kits are not accurate nor reliable.

my nitrate level is off the chart and i have no issues with any species :) (dose EI)

try putting Vaseline on the seals, if not replace them, eheim are really good for parts they make them for moat filters still. all on ebay:)

the liquid could be out of date, the code on the neck has the year on. I had a out of date nitrate one and the readings were as you describe.

what cylinder do you need filling, pub gas? or fire extinguisher, just ring your local BOC and ask them to do it, or your local home brewing shop or anywhere that services fire extinquishers.

paintball tanks use the american thread cga320 so they wont be able to fill any uk cylinders as they all use din477

my tiger barbs attacked and ripped apart any shrimp they found once they got a taste for them,which didnt take long. shrimp always look and do better in a shrimp only tank as they spend all the time out wandering around, when there are fish they spend a lot of time hidden.

plants dont care what colour the light is, pick which colour temp you prefer the look of.

when your doing the water change, use a pippette to put the easycarbo directly on the bba, it will go pink and die off in a day or so.

reflectors dont alter the wpg calculation :)

i wouldnt dose full ei on a tank with no co2, your probably end up with algae problems, use a weaker dose.

I grew a healthy, thick Hairgrass carpet using profito and easycarbo :) gets expensive in the long run, EI is much cheaper.
