    Stupid newbie

Waterchanges. You can chemically treat it with a product like amquel, but the toxins are still there, just not so harmful. Waterchanges though would be your best bet IMO. You'll want to get tests for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Once your nitrates begin to go up, your cycle is almost...

    Stupid newbie

I read a post on here not too long ago and someone said that bubbles on top of the water that don't just pop are a sign of ammonia. Do you have tests to check ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate? By checking these, you will be able to see if your ugf is indeed working properly. Is there a line on...

    Do you agree???

Yeah, that sucks. Do you have a seperate tank to put her in? Luckily I haven't had to deal with dropsy, but I have heard that it isn't easy to treat, and usually doesn't respond. When are you leaving? I think that you should post this in the emergency section, and let them know. You will...

    stress

For the frequency of water changes, it kind of depends on your water perameters, but I like to do 25% weekly. I use a gravel vaccum, and it is great because it sucks up all the junk in the gravel, but doesn't suck up the gravel itself. Then you can clean and water change at the same time. If...

    Bubba the betta is deceased

That is very sad. RIP Bubba. Did the melefix seem like it was helping Bubba? If not, then it is probably not a good idea to reintroduce the females yet, as you haven't been treating it for the right thing. Maybe do a few really good waterchanges first.

    Transporting Shrimp

Maybe just change the 100% one to all but enough to keep the shrimp covered. I bought a really small gravel vac for my 2 gallon betta tank, and it works a lot better for me then dumping the water out. This way I can leave the betta in the tank while I'm changing his water.

bindleybird, There is also a pinned topic on this subject in the beginner section. Is there a reason that you are asking...sick fish perhaps?

    betta tube ?

Maybe you should just get like 5 betta tanks....your uncle would really die then though...maybe not! :P ;)

    gourami

She also needs a male to fertilize the eggs, as they are not live bearers.

    baby guppies

When you are doing a water change, you always want to put fresh dechlorinated water. Adding dirty tank water seems counter-productive.

    Transporting Shrimp

How often do you do water changes? Maybe you can do a 75% twice a week. Can the shrimp live outside of the water for any period of time?

    betta tube ?

Hi Dolores! I think that it is probably not a very good way of life for the betta. Does it say how much space it will give the betta? I didn't see that. Personally I wouldn't put a betta in anything smaller then a 1 gallon.
  17. M

    What should i call them?

I would name them fluffy and cuddles. I have only named one of my fish...my betta Captain Stubing.

    Do you agree???

Yeah, it was awful. RIP Crusher. He had a great life though. He was a hunting dog, and was so happy! He was 16 years old. Point is though that sometimes you just have to make the hard decisions. Whether it be fish, dogs or whatever. Sorry if I hijacked your post!

    Do you agree???

If it looked like it was in pain, I'd have my boyfriend do it. I think that knowing when to end an animal's suffering is part of the responsibility of taking care of them. I personally am too much of a wussy to do it myself, but I let a fish die on it's own before, and I really regret it...

    Sunglasses for koi--seriously; on ebay!

I wish I could get the name of that person...I could probably sell them a nice little fishy skirt...I mean when was the last time you went out in the blinding sun without any clothes. I could be doing their fish a favor! LOL!!!! An idiot's born every minute, and I guess at some point...

    stress

My fish seem to like it when I look at them. They all come to the front (begging for a handout I think). I have heard that during breeding some fish get all freaked out and eat their babies, but normally I don't think it bothers them. I have gouramis, guppies, mollies, platties, etc. As for...

    Mutt or Purebred?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your dog is a mutt. :dunno: 99% is not a purebred.
  26. M

    Mutt or Purebred?

I prefer mutts myself, but I was raised my whole life with purebreds. We had German Shepherds, and almost anyone who has had one knows the heartache of the hip problem. Then problem is that since purebreds are inbred so much, you have defective recessive genes that pair up and become dominant...

Not an emergency quite yet...but it will be...

I agree with queen gumby. As for adding them into your tank...they are already kind of quarantined right...I mean they are in another tank and they aren't sick....so I think that you should be fine adding them. Just make sure that you net them into your tank as opposed to dumping other tank...

    Getting A Bottom feeder

I personally like corys. They school and are fun to watch, plus they are more active in the day time then many other bottom feeders.

Is anyone else as indecisive as me?

Oh how exciting for you!!!!! I personally like the diamond tetras, or red eye tetras for the schooling idea, and of course any gourami! Dwarf neon rainbows are nice also, and would look great with the reddish substrate. Please let us know what you end up with and post pics!
  35. M

    dwarf gouramis

Um, I would not add anything else at this time. You have some fish in there that get big...like your clown loaches can get 12" long. If I were you, I'd just wait and let your fish grow up. JMHO

    dwarf gouramis

It would be helpful to know more about your tank like size and other residents, but I am surprised that your fish died. Maybe it was just shock. You should be able to house several together assuming that you have adequate space. They do get territorial so it has been recommended that you...
