    Fish out of water

Nearly all fish can survive for quite a long time outside of water, much longer than a human can underwater (drowned). They gulp air into their stomach, and recieve some oxygen through there. In fact, most will die first from being dried out than from oxygen deprivation. Ive seen some fish that...

    Carbon

Also remember that if you have live plants, the carbon will take most of the nutrients out of the water too, starving the plants. Xcrown

    Stones from a quarry

THE ultimate test to see if rocks or other outworldly things will be neutral in your tank is to apply some vinegar. If they bubble, even a bit, then no. If not, then youre safe. Scrub em to get any outside critters out, and go nuts. My chichlid setup was made that way. Im no paying 15 bucks a...

New here, where is everyone from?

Again, hi to everyone. From the little Ive read on here, I enjoy this spot quite alot. Ive kinda gotten tired of reading and posting on boards with 100K people, where everyone is THE expert. Hard for anyone to learn or part their own experiences. At the moment, I have 2 aquariums. A small 20G...

    Iodide

PMDD (poor mans dosing drops) is a home made aquarium fertlizer. ITs good stuff, and cheap, and for the most part works well. Heres the run down mix with water to make a 1/2 liter solution, 1 tablespoon chelated trace mix 1 tablespoon MgSO4+7H2O 2 tablespoons K2SO4 1 tablespoon KNO3...

    Iodide

That definetly sounds like an iron deficiency. Be very careful when adding CO2 becuase if you dont have enough other nutrients, the plant will just grow too fast, and die off. Iodide is not important, and the plants only use it in VERY small ammounts. Iron, phostphates, nitrates, nitrites, are...

    Big problem!!! high water temp

When I talked about circulation, I was talking more about water movement. The more the water moves, the more itll release heat. With a fan on the aquarium, across its longest side, you should help it lose some of the heat. Xcrown

    Shrimp?

If the shrimp are happy and well fed, they will never flee. They only try to jump out when the waters bad or theres no food, natural I guess. Hope you like them, I LOVE them. Just dont put them in with agressive fish. Xcrown

    Iodide

Iodide is on the bottom of a LONG list of things that are beneficial to plants. They key word here being beneficial. Without getting too technical, the most important thing your plants need are light, air (O2 and CO2) and a healthy substrate. Ive only gotten into live plants in the past 10...

    Big problem!!! high water temp

I dont want to sound like a pessimist, but Id shy away from using the frozen or chilled bottles of water. First of all its alot of work if you want to keep a constant temperature, and if you dont keep it constant, you will hurt the fish. Ive had someone totally kill off tanks that way. You...

    How many fish?

Heres my opinion. Althought the 1 inch rule seems to be a good idea, especially for newer aquarium hobbyists, its not completly true. Remember that in the wild, that number is nowhere near the truth. There are many things to take into consideration. Your filtration type, live plants, types of...

    Shrimp?

First of all, hi to everyone, new on this forum. Now..... Ive been using shrimp for a VERY long time. Along with cats (corys) and plecos, they clean up everything. The kind you want to get though is the japanese algae eating time. Very similar to the ghost shrimp, thats the confusion. Ghost...
