yep, try testing your tap for ammonia. Try asking your LFS if they will give you some mature media :good:

The water won't be much help because it doesn't have the good bacteria, I'd say best to use fresh, new dechlorinated water rather than using the old water. You can put the filter media in your old water while you clean.

10 gal with 9 platys and guppies? That's overcrowded >.< The general rule is 1" of fish per 1 gal. Platys can grow up to 2.5".

I wouldn't risk putting him with your other fish.. Even if you don't see symptoms now, the parasite can easily pass from one fish to another (if it is indeed a parasite that's the problem).

If you're fully cycled, you should not have any ammonia and nitrite... so it looks like you're not fully cycled yet :( I wouldn't buy any more fish, complete your cycle first. First do a 90% water change to bring the nitrite down to 0. The pH is a little low... is your pH 6.8 out of the tap?

The hood I found doesn't have that measurement, though. It only says that it has 460 par/lux with 22 60mW White LEDs and 2 60mW Blue LEDs. I never knew lighting could be so complicated.

Yes, that's normal. Ammonia and nitrite should be 0 always, nitrate is normally always present but is not harmful to fish unless it is very, very high.

Is that the same as moneywort? I googled it and it looks to be the same as moneywort, because that's what I have in the background. The leaves on the center one are a bit rounder (and lighter)
