    Fry Survival Rate?

Why is that, do you think? @snazy: even with the breeder net, should I do more water changes? I always do sort of a water change in the breeder net, dumping water outside of the breeder net for circulation and what not. Is that enough (& 1 real 25% water change per week) or do they require more?

How To Tell If It's Last Babies From Platy?!

Net on filter is good :) I use a syringe (without the point) to clean the waste, others use turkey basters I think. But I use it for a breeder net, I reckon it would take forever with a 10 gallon though. You could use a small airline tube to syphon it out, checking the bucket for any fry that...

    Good Luck, East Coast

Luckily, I have a generator too. Hopefully it'll work and I won't have to worry about my fish..... & I hope Maryland isn't hit too hard ;(

How To Tell If It's Last Babies From Platy?!

I don't think they'll ever have "last babies," unless they aren't kept with males for 6+ months. They can store sperm for up to 6 months (so 6 batches of fry) The 4 week old platy may eat the new born ones, depending on how big they are. you can tell by their mouth size :) Many of the babies...

    Fry Survival Rate?

First time, I only found 2 platy fry and they both died :( A few days ago, I found 4, and I have 3 left. I hope they survive!

    Power Outages Expected

Yeah, I don't understand why they don't do that already. Yes, it'll cost millions of dollars, but I'm sure it will cost less in the long run compared to the money they have to spend every year with power outages. ~_~

    Power Outages Expected

Oh gosh, I really hope it's not TOO bad ._. I have a UPS which should last until we get the generator on (and should hopefully work), we're always losing power in Maryland :/

    My First Platy Fry!

I would have, but i didn't want to stress her. The breeder net I have is small and doesn separate the mom and babies, I'd rather her have them in the main tank where they can hide better :)

    My First Platy Fry!

Yay, she gave birth today! Found 4 this time :) (Right above the plant) this guy likes to stay on the top a lot and hides in plants Can you spot all 3? :D they are too cute!!

    Slow Down There, Popcorn

Lol.. I don't think anybody can answer that for you, she'll be pregnant sooner or later, unless she's infertile. No one will be able to tell you when exactly she's going to be pregnant.

    Breeder Net

Yeah, I have some floating anacharis on top of the breeder net. It came with some plastic plants for the bottom of the net, should I put those on? (it makes them impossible to see though) They seem scared of the light, always hiding in the shade... do they naturally not like light either? thanks :)

    Breeder Net

 My fry are so shy, they keep hiding between the plastic frame and the net :/

I have 3 nerite snails, do you think I should put one inside the breeder net? :) Thanks!

    Breeder Net

How would I go about cleaning it? Right now I'm using a syringe to suck up the poop from the bottom (and top).. I'm wondering if there's a better way. Not sure I want to move all the fry to clean it though. And also how often should I clean it? I know the fry need clean water to be healthy and...

I Wasn't Told About Fishless Cycling!

try to get a gravel vacuum- it cleans poop out of the gravel & takes out water at the same time :good: you'll definitely need one! I would suggest going to your LFS and ask for some mature filter media from one of their tanks, it'll almost instantly cycle your tank and save you from doing a...

Are There A Good Make Of Plastic/silk Plants?

Well, even with low nitrate levels I still get algae... with real plants, it's fun to see them grow and I'm sure the fish like them better than fake plants (I would think, anyway..) Plus, don't you think real plants look so much better than fake plants? I haven't seen any fake plants that look...

    Clamped Fins & Flashing

No problem thanks for replying :) I just watched her flash again, no more clamping or weird swimming, but flashing 5-6 times within a minute, but then after maybe 2-3 minutes she stopped. She always flashes on 2 of the larger leafed plants (which are non-aquatic.. I think if that makes a...

    Petting Platys?

Same, once when I wasn't quite paying attention, I was fixing my glass diffusor and one of them decided to swim on top of it as I was taking it out and surprised me when there was a fish flapping on my diffusor o___________o And once I was cleaning the glass with a sponge, and one of the platys...

    What's Going On?

:( I used to put one of my more aggressive fish in "timeout," just a plastic container with air pump for ~5 minutes until she calms down..... maybe if you have a breeder box or something? I don't know, but I would definitely try to help her out somehow.

    Clamped Fins & Flashing

Yes, she's stopped flashing and swimming weirdly. She's not clamping anymore. Pretty weird...... I did see some flashing from other platys yesterday, but they weren't constant and weren't swimming oddly either (or clamping). I haven't seen anymore weird behaviors today. So hopefully they just...

    Petting Platys?

To be honest I'm not quite sure- I pet platys too  but I think the oils on our skin damages a protective coating on theirs, so best to do it in moderation.

    Clamped Fins & Flashing

One of my platys is flashing and clamping.. I noticed the flashing maybe a week ago, but it was not too alarming since she wasn't clamping then- and I had done a water change prior, so I thought it was just because of the water change. She's swimming weirdly, sort of floating and swimming away...

    Reccomendations

DIY co2 system with bottles? I would recommend attaching a smaller bottle to the larger one, to ensure no yeast gunk gets into the tank. It might be cheaper, but maybe not in the long run because of the amount of sugar you have to use.

What Just Happened To My Guppy?

It only took you a week to cycle? how exactly did you cycle it, adding liquid ammonia, testing, etc? Or did you just let it run? Watch out for red streaks, flashing and other odd behavior. The fish that died may have died from ammonia poisoning.. Has there been ammonia readings before...

How Often Do You Change Your Water?

LOL really? I haven't really been paying attention to my lawn, I think my mom also waters her plants with it. It's natural fertilizer!

How Often Do You Change Your Water?

Once a week, ~30% :) but sometimes nearly 50% because of the water that evaporates :/ I quite like doing water changes actually. The dirty water is used to water the lawn
