I stated that they use sight in my response but left it up to the questioner as to what answer was correct. BTW, Wikipedia stated the myths as myths and offered the scientific conclusion of them using sight.   To answer the next question, no they are different fish.

    Mistakes Made/lessons Learned

I used to think that fish could not get electrocuted, like a bird on a wire. I found out differently early in my career. I was cleaning a tank and had placed the light strip directly on it so I could see what I was doing and it fell into the tank while I was doing something else, luckily my arm...

I should have typed "urine" as I did see that. I was still working on my first coffee and confused the terms.   Since we haven't heard from anyone else, I'm thinking that you have the right answer.

    Population Question And Suggestions

You're right. I was thinking of the African Clawed Frog but you might be surprised how large of a food item a frog can eat in proportion to their body size. They will also mistakenly attempt to eat something that is too big for them to swallow, as you have found out.

    Mistakes Made/lessons Learned

Most of us have made some mistakes for a variety of reasons as we learned how to properly take care of our charges. Be it misinformation, misconceptions, or plain old mistakes. Some were costly, some messy, some just made us ask ourselves, "What was I thinking?" I started at day one with my...

Discus Not Eating - Help Needed [Pic Included]

I stand by what I said. You did not get stuck with a thin fish. All you had to do was ask to get a better look at it before you bought it. That is our responsibility as consumers. We all make mistakes. I lost nearly $100.00 of fish doing something that I knew I shouldn't. The fish store knew it...

Discus Not Eating - Help Needed [Pic Included]

I'm not arguing ethics, I'm stating facts but bad mouthing a place with nothing more than one thin fish is a bit extreme. Using a vet for sick fish is also a bit extreme, at the retail level. I'm fairly certain that is only found at very high end places. We, as hobbyists, need to make...

Discus Not Eating - Help Needed [Pic Included]

With a fish as sensitive as discus, you have to be sure of what you are buying. If you are that concerned about the money, you should have asked to get a better look and see it eat. If they were not willing to do that, then don't buy the fish.   That being said, most places that I've seen...

    Siamese Algae Eaters

If this statement is true, how did you guys get "true" ones?   Did you actually mean, Crossocheilus langeii, which is the one most often encountered in the hobby as the Siamese Algae Eater according to the article.

    Discus

You don't seem to be understanding me. Discus are a peaceful fish and do not handle stress very well. That RTS needs to go now. Also, those tetras are, IMHO, too active. Some plecos are not suitable, either. They can develop a taste for the slime coating on the discus. That polypterus scares me...

    Interesting Fish Food Ideas

That video was pretty disturbing. I've had a couple of bad experiences with house flies and their maggots. To this day, they still give me the willies.   Not that I like mosquitos, but making larvae and not allowing them to morph sounds like a good idea. I'm familiar enough with them to do that...

    Angelfish Breeding Questions

TY for the link, Baccus.   It's a good read. it answered one of the questions i had, "How long does it take for fry to reach selling size?"   However, it does not go into raising multiple spawns from even one pair.   How much tank space does it require to accommodate raising the fry from...

    Full Spectrum Led Lights

I'm new to using LEDs in fish tanks. In the past I've used a variety of "full spectrum" fluorescents and like them very much. I recently bought a couple of very inexpensive submersible fixtures to mount via suction cups to the underside of a glass canopy. I went cheap as I wasn't sure how it...

    Angelfish Breeding Questions

I bookmarked Angels Plus. It looks like there is a lot to be learned there. That link isn't to an article, though. The page is just a bunch of compliments. I've got a couple of general questions about Angel breeding and was looking forward to reading it. Can you get the correct link to the...

    Interesting Fish Food Ideas

How do you catch the Fruit Flies? Those little buggers appear out of nowhere sometimes and I find them impossible to kill. I've never thought of using them as food for fish because they are so annoying. I just squish them. As to the maggots, are you purposely setting up something to create...

    Fish Of The Month Banter

I think you are right about the plant behind the dorsal fin. I didn't notice that before. I thought it was the fin. Like I tried to say, that photo probably doesn't do that fish justice. But, I think the anal fin should pretty much come to a point.

Best Cheapish Gravel Cleaner For 18" & 24" Deep Tanks

If you are syphoning into buckets, it is very easy to start the flow without any aids.   1.   Submerse the entire gravel cleaner and hose in the tank. Start from the suction end and feed the rest of it into the tank being careful not to create any air gaps in the hose. 2.   Once the output ent...

    The Mass Murdering Zebra Danio

I have heard of rogue fish like that. I never heard any theories about why it happens, though. Captivity has a widely strange affect on certain individuals of just about any species. I once had the pleasure of taking care of a rabbit that had become extremely aggressive for no apparent reason. I...

    Discus

That is the one that caught my eye at first. I would definitely re-home him.   How are the tetras? How many do you have? Are they active?   When I did Discus years ago, they were supposed to be kept with peaceful non-active fish. Also, we kept that at higher temperatures than was appropriate for...

    Bichirs As Tang Tank Mates?

It might work in your large tank but a couple things to consider would be that birchirs, while not picky, prefer a lower pH than the tangs. I would not recommend keeping them together but if you are dead set on giving it a try, I would add them while the others are still small, but still big...

    It's War In Angelfish Land

I really wish people would stop saying that all cichlids are aggressive. That is false. Territoriality and aggression do not mean the same thing. There are plenty of peaceful species. That statement also scares people away from keeping some of the most beautiful and behaviorally interesting...
