Is this hole in head or injury?

On this photo it looks like an injury, if so keep the water clean and it should heal just fine. Just keep an eye on it to see if it expands or get covered with a fluffy looking growth.

    Hole In Head Syndrome

Just a quick update to let you know that neither metronidazole nor quinolones and their accompanying measures have worked, she died a few days ago. Thank you everyone for trying.

    Hole In Head Syndrome

Wild Araguaiae such as mine can be really mean yes. On the contrary their offspring weren't aggressive, granted that they weren't fully grown when I sold them. However if there's no other similarly shaped cichlid in the tank, they are absolutely devoid of aggression outside of reproduction, even...

    Hole In Head Syndrome

I don't see where we disagree here. I only explained my method, in my tank, where it works. And then given more informations when the notion was challenged, that is all. By the way it doesn't require mega-light, an "upper medium" lighting is enough. Such as those that come in most premade tanks...

    Hole In Head Syndrome

Plants can be excellent indicators for nitrates. Even before they display deficiency symptoms you can gauge your nitrates level by seeing how the leaves color under the light. This is only true if you are low enough however, above a certain point all you can see is that there is ample nitrates...

    Hole In Head Syndrome

Quick Update: Today I tried without success to feed her flakes, both with metro/garlic and without, but she did eat the bloodworm I gave afterward. I'll continue the current treatment, and try again with the flakes tomorrow. KNO3 is an inorganic nitrate, hence my question, but I honestly don't...

    Hole In Head Syndrome

Nitrates level are actually an issue for me given how low they are, I'm forced to add some KNO3. I don't know the exact level, but they are low enough that if I skip dosing it shows on my plants. Byron, while you're here, I've read that non-organic nitrates are fairly innocuous, do you happen to...

    Hole In Head Syndrome

I don't have any test for ammonia or nitrites as all my tanks are "old", but Metronidazole shouldn't be active against aerobic bacterias and the other fish are looking quite well. My pH is slightly below 7 as usual, with a gH of 6. While I'm at it, I also never saw signs of water column...

    Hole In Head Syndrome

Thank you for the kind words and the help. 1. The water quality has never been better as I've intensified the already generous WC routine. It sits around 2x50% per week on average. 2. Dietwise, during my illness I must admit to have mostly fed them flakes, I checked, they were around 5 to 7...

    Hole In Head Syndrome

Hi, I have a female L. Araguaiae with HITH which I've been treating with metronidazole without success. To put some extensive context: I got ill a few months back for a few months and couldn't keep up with the maintenance. This caused my male Ara to catch dropsy (right when I finally got better...

    Help ID a Cichlid

I do not. I quickly sold them to someone able to host them, why?

    ID of corys

I just received 12 Corys, bought as Corydoras Napoensis. They feel pretty off to me but given that they're really young I'm not sure. Some feel a bit like Elegans (such as the one on the right). They're in a quarantine tank with Gh6, PH7 at 25.5°C for the time being.

HELP! Juvenile Oscar spends his time hiding/sitting on bottom of tank.

He looks scared to me too. Try to put some throwaway plants and/or stuff you can sterilise afterward if needed, if that's not enough cover 1-3 faces of the tank with a dark fabric/plastic.

    Bujurquina Vittata infos

For anyone interested, I just heard back from an expert on the matter, "Absolutely NOT" was the answer. I guess that settles it. Thanks guys for the answers.

    Bujurquina Vittata infos

I'm looking into getting a pair of Bujurquina Vittata Ipacarai. From what I gathered they get to 10-12cm and aren't a threat to Nannostomus Marginatus, which is right what I'm looking for. Can anybody confirm that they aren't avid snackers like A.Pulcher? Some of my Marginatus aren't fully grown...

    Help ID a Cichlid

Thank you all, it seems you guessed right. My nannostomus are in for wild ride until I find a new home for the two little monsters.

    Help ID a Cichlid

I bought what should have been a couple of L. Dorsigera and instead received two unknowns. I'm not even sure what genus they are. They're extremely shy but spend most of their time glass surfing when no one is around, hopefully these two blurry pics I got are enough? They're roughly the size...
