I am not so sure on how to help you here, but I can give you some advice. Boiled peas are used for helping with constipation in fish, and not directly for swim bladder issues.

Is the tank cycled? By the sounds of it you don’t have a testing kit which makes things difficult considering your LFS is so far away! How long has the tank been set up for?

A single betta fish would be good in a tank this size.

It can be deadly, but as long as the fish is given good care (regular water changes and general water quality care) then it should pull through. It’s not the virus you need to worry about really, it’s the bacterial and fungal infections which can follow if water quality is not perfect.

Yeah i’m pretty certain this is the cause. It causes cells to become enlarged. It doesn’t effect the fishes health in general but can cause cuts and disfigurement.

If i’m correct mg/l is the same as PPM so if that is true you have extremely hard water.

It can last about 6 weeks in tropical fish. It may cause secondary bacterial problems which could kill off the fish so it does depend on the situation, but the virus can last 6 weeks.
