Well the directions for Safestart are pretty much pour the product in your tank and you're cycled.  That's  the reason I've been posting about it.  So if the next person who uses safestart is looking for some information, maybe reading about my experiences will help.

Well, now I just don't know.  For two days in a row, the readings have been about the same.  Honestly I can't tell if the ammonia is at 0 or .25, and I can't tell if the Niitrates are at 0 or 5.  I think I'm just going to cross my fingers, add more fish, and keep testing the water.

Maybe I confused you.  I don't plan on replacing the hood - this tank comes with a great hood.  I was just worried that IF it needed to be replaced at some point, would that be a problem.  I think I've decided to just go for it.
