What type of aquarist stays in the hobby the longest?

For me, I like anything and everything aquarium. I remember starting as a kid using big jars to keep Guppies and snails. Growing up in a tropical island, I remember having a friend that used to grow beautiful tropical fish in a farm like setting, this left a big impression on me. Later on in...

    Poor Silver Dollar/ Help

Looks like he has been either attacked by other fish or fin rot. I'm confident with clean water and a good diet, it can be brought back.

Fin Rot and White Growth. Please help!

Issues in the tank are either brought on by new fish or poor water conditions. I suggest doing frequent water changes especially when there are problems like these with fish in the tank. Personally, I’d stay away from adding chemicals (medicine) into the tank.

    Ich infection

With ich what has worked for me has been to raise temp to around 80f and lots of partial water changes. I’m skeptical about adding meds and salt to a tank.

    Buenos Aires Tetras and lighting.

They all follow each other, it’s a weird but nice bond. The floating plants sound like a good idea.

    Buenos Aires Tetras and lighting.

The interesting thing about this is that the barbs were out front at all times, now they follow the ba tetras and hide from the bright light together with them. Feeding time they all come out, if one darts to a corner, the rest of the group follow. It is unusual behavior.

Beautiful tank, I only wish. Are you worried about algae build since is next to a window or could it actually help plant growth?

    New old timer...

New to the forums but an old timer with decades of having tanks both fresh and salt water. My current and only tank is a 40g filled with tiger barbs and Buenos Aires tetras, just keeping it simple. I'm a one-time purchaser and long time keeper, meaning my fish are in tanks for the duration...

    Buenos Aires Tetras and lighting.

New to Tetras but not new to the hobby, recently added eight BA Tetras to a 55g with an existing eight Tiger Barbs. They have been together for about a month and to my surprise, it has been an incredible bond between the two species, always together and they school together as well. My issue is...

    Undergravel filters?

Not much required to maintain ugf’s other than an occasional light gravel vacuuming. I maintained many tanks especially salt water, huge amounts of beneficial bacteria can reside in the gravel. Yes, stuff got through the gravel to the bottom, this is where using the right gravel and a power head...
