I have the lights on a timer for 8 hrs a day, I just seem to keep getting these blooms which start on the wood and spreads through the tank. I'm going to have a deep clean tonight, any suggestions?

Brown algae. What a pain guys. Anyone have any effective ideas what will eliminate these lil pests. No matter how much I clean and scrub the little shizznits keep coming back. Cheers. G

Yeah 1or2mm approx a few which are left are translucent so maybe these are fertile? I really have no idea about this stuff.

Well I should have taken them out sooner because they have been eaten now. I'm only getting used to looking after the grown ups and don't think I have the knowledge of having eggs and fry in my tank. Wouldn't have a clue what to do.

Cheers James7 My first thought was gourami eggs but @essjay told me they make bubbles not balls.

So ive gourami's danios neon tetras and cory cats. No snails shrimps or other invertebrates. @essjayand myself had a good discussion earlier on this. Any ideas now you k ow the stock? Cheers G

I have water sprite in there with some java fern and crypts so I think ill get some more floating plants but they will all clump together with th flow in the tank.

Regarding the test kit I was thinking the same. I have never seen the ammonia test turn yellow. What test kit would you recommend? I have not let the water stand for 24hrs but I will straight away. I have taken everything which could have been adding to the ph out of the tank and the only thing...

They do but the height give more space between top middle and bottom dwellers. How many tanks have you got?

I was wondering about the plants. It still looks good and fish are happy which is the main thing.

The water parameters are all over the place really all because of my tap water besides the ph. In the tap its 6.8 and in my tank it is 8. I don't understand why. Makes water changes harder so I only do small ones because the fish don't like the sudden change in ph. I use api master test kit. I'm...

The tap water has always been .25ppm so has my tank. A nightmare for a beginner to figure out. And the cost has been more than expected but I'm not gonna give up. I'll figure out my beginner tank and once I have it dialled in the way it should be then I will get another tank.

Thanks for that. The eggs were behind the floating plant, since I've changed filter the plant floated to the other side of the tank because of the flow from the new canister. The eggs are behind the flow outlet so they are not in direct flow from the new set up but the old filter would be...

I have 2 julii cori they don't swim as high as the eggs are.

They are little white balls attached to the glass.

hey all. I've just set up my first canister filter, running 24 hrs now and the water is crystal, but I'm wondering how long it takes to go through the cycle? I have squeezed out the existing filter into the tank and I still have the old filter running too just in case. Thanks. G

Ph spiked to 7.8 Ammonia to .25 Nitrite 0 Nitrate between 40 - 80 I cant tell the difference. If I change the water nothing it will only keep the parameters the same as they are now until I get the ro system. Cheers. G
