Ok, you where right, damn decimal point. At least there was nothing in the tank! :blush: What would be best, empty tank and start again or leave it be and wait for the filter to grow bacteria, will bacteria be able to grow with so much concentrate of ammonia in the water??

I've calculated that i need 336ml of ammonia to put into my tank to raise it too 5ppm, it's a 170 litre tank, does this sound right??

I'm totally new and I'm just going on what the shop guy said so far. Am i right in saying that i need to put in ammonia as there is no fish in it to create waste to help the bacteria grow in the filter?

Thanks for your help, the first pump was dead and the new one just needed a little kick start, i found out that the water going through the pump lubricates it and because it was new, obviously there was no water hence the helping hand it needed to start. Working fine now. :D
