you could try male endlers with your betta, they have a similar body shape and can be fantasticly colourful, but lack the large flowing tail. JG

My tank is getting close to being cycled now, after adding ammonia to 5ppm. 15 hours later i checked and got readings of 0.5ppm ammonia and 0 nitrites. Previously to this it has been the ammonia that clears prior to the nitrites. I cant be too far away now. I hope!

you need to keep adding the ammonia until the fish arrive otherwise the bacteria will die off, you should have a rough idea as to how long your tank takes to process the ammonia so time that around the fish arriving.

I know many bits of 'advice' from lfs are to be taken with caution, but today i were advised a male betta should be kept with 2 females as this calms him down and is less likely to annoy other fish. is this the case or am i ok with just a male?
