    Max Pipe Work Flow...

25mm poly pipe can be used when a large flow rate is required or distances are greater than average. Maximum flow rate through 25mm is around 55-60 litres per minute. taken from http://www.wetearth.com.au/content/design.asp

    A Breeding Ethics Question.

Realtree, that would be true if he actually had variants but as far as I know sprengerae is not a location for cichlids to be caught in the wild, it is apart of the rusties scientific name... this means that they are the same fish and no such hybridisation would occur.

    A Breeding Ethics Question.

I still think that these are the same fish. Different variants occur with some species of cichlids such as frontosa - ikola, zaire etc. But Your fish was still called sprengerae according to how it was labelled (maybe just different spelling). I wouldn't worry about breeding them... even if...

    Cat Fish With Cichlids

I'm keen to hear other opinions on this also. I keep both malawi and tanganyikan cichlids and know that the cuckoo catfish is suppose to be the most compatible as it comes from the lake, but never kept em so don't know much about how well they clean up algae. I did attempt to keep a group of...

    A Breeding Ethics Question.

Correct me if I'm wrong but are rusties and sprengerae not the same fish? The scientific name for them is Iodotropheus Sprengerae and I'm yet to hear of a variant coming from different areas...

    What To Do

At that stage it sounds like the fry should be capable of swimming well i.e. they wont stay on the bottom all day and get fungus (this is when an egg tumbler is needed). Another tank will certainly make your experience alot less stressful and easier to look after the fry. If you want you can...

    What To Do

If your tank is stocked well and does not have many hiding places for little fish (which big fish cannot enter) then then say goodbye to all the fry. If your tank does have hiding places and is reasonably stocked say goodbye to 80-90% of the fry. If you put the mum in a frysaver/net you also...

    My Blue Rams :d

I've never had much luck with the more "tropical fish" like neons and angels... they were the fish I tried to look after in my early days and needless to say I stuffed it up and unfortunately they were the ones to pay the price. I now keep and breed various africans/tanganyikan cichlids...

All My Shrimps Are Dead - Copper Poisoning :(

I'm not one for really discussing plants but maybe there was a pH change when they were put in.

    My Blue Rams :d

Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear about your female, always annoying to lose females and have a lone male. I believe good circulation (but not too much) can help keep eggs from fungusing, provided they are fertilised of course.

First off, love the fish! Do you change/know your gh/kh levels? Also what size tank are you keeping them in?

What Is The Correct Gh & Kh?

About 12 for Kh and I've kept/bred africans with a Gh between 20-30 (which is quite high, but it worked so I have no need to change it) It is much easier to raise these levels than it is to lower. This can be done with various "buffers" one for Kh and another for Gh
