Ok, I think rinsing the white pad in the filter before the bio material was fully established and continuing vacuuming with the weekly water change made this worse causing a mini cycle that increased after the power outage. I just wanted to make sure that the canister didn't go toxic. Thanks.

Well I had a power outage for 4 hours the other night. The 46 and 72 had ammonia spikes and are under control. Now the 37 has spiked at 2.0 and I am following the same plan. The tank has been up for six months but the filter only 2 months. The only differences are the spike came 36 hours...

So I finally stopped using the test strips and got the liquid test kit. I have .25 ammonia in every tank and the tap water looks like .125. The nitrite and nitrate are fine. I do weekly water changes. So, what do I do? Switch from stress coat to prime? Feed them less food? Give away a...

Chlorine should be zero. Do you use something like stress coat or prime? Do you keep the light on for 8-12 hours a day? I feed mine one algae wafer every other day.

I went for a 3 weeks with 6 fish and the levels looked good. I added 4 fish a couple days ago and the ammonia is up to 0.25. When do I need to do a water change? now or at 0.50. Do I need to skip a day of feeding or just feed less food? They all seem happy. Thanks.
