I "inherited" a fish yesterday from a military friend who is being deployed. She has no idea what it is and neither do I. Can someone help me out, please? :)

The color in these pictures is fairly accurate - the fish is pale pink and is about 4 inches long from snout to tail.

Yes! your fish is indeed a "Kissing Gourami" (Helostoma temminkii). These fish can get quite large (up to 30cms) although under aquarium conditions slightly smaller (15-18cms).

Yes, it is a Kissing Gourami, though some are White (more of the wild apperance) and some are pink (the ones you normally find)

Actually, white probably means they arn't healthy.
The real and true wild Kissing Gourami actually have a shade of green to them.

Cool fish
I hope you have a big enough tank for it.
