Hey all-

Has anyone seen this before? It's on a discus. I've treated with tertracycline for 7 days with negative results, and now I'm treating with furazone green and light (nitrofurazone and furazolidone). It starts as a bump on the fin, not body, turns white, and leaves a whole clear through the fin. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Natron

Im no disuc man, so take this with a grain of salt, but could it be a burn rather than a bacterial infection? Id take a good look at your heater with caution not to burn yourself, and run your hand close to it and see how hot its getting.

It's staying around too long for a burn-it would have healed allready, but thanks.

Don't know a thing about discuses, but I did have a case of bacterial finrot on my platy which started with a white spot on the anal fin, and then fell off leaving a hole. I treated first with anti-fingus&finrot, then with with salt (can discuses cope with salt?), then with antibacterial medicine. Think it was the last 2 that shifted it, she was better within a few days and the fin grew back within a few weeks.

However, this may not be at all relevant to you, as I said I know nothing about discuses (never had the room), and I never noticed a bump.

Thanks, I'm pretty much doing tht treatment now. Now the fish has slime on it - trying to figure out what that is also.

It could also be a parasite, if it's slimy, they can get bumps with them, noticed any flicking and rubbing.

I believe that I have diagnosed this finally. I think it's Columnaris.

This article was very helpful. I am currently doing salt baths and treating with antibiotics and malachite green. Water changes before each treatment, and I've inreased the temperature to about 89 F. The salt bath really worked on the slime. I'll keep on posting with changes.
