Fish Addict
After much diligent searching, Hunter and I found each other last Thursday at the LFS. I went in to get some regular supplies and I had been thinking about getting some otos for my community tank. While the girl was catching them and bagging them up for me I heard one of the men say. "It's a shame his tail is so torn up. He's really different looking, but I bet we'll never sell him."
I must have had SUCKER tatooed on my forehead.
I tried not to look because I knew it was a betta they were talking about. I tried not to think about it, and instead wound up getting another dwarf frog and snail. I guess I thought if I kept buying other things I wouldn't get the betta. WRONG!
I finally couldn't stand it any longer. I walked back to the betta bench and picked up the cup they had been looking into. All it took was one look at that sweet little face and I was hooked.
He was smaller than the other bettas, and appeared to have a mustard body, and red fins tapering off into opaque. The fins were in long tatters with big chunks out of them. But he looked me right in the eye and it looked like he was begging me to get him out of there.
I took him home and put him in a little 1/2 gal fish bowl until I could get something better. I sat him on the kitchen counter where it would be dark and quiet until morning. When my son came home I proudly showed off my new addition.
The next morning, there was a box sitting next to the bowl with a note on it. "Happy Early Mother's Day." It was a 1 gal Aquaview tank for my new baby. I set it up at work today and am going to let it run overnight. Hunter will be joining me at work tomorrow.
But the big surpirse came when I got him into the little bowl of clean water. His colors darkened and he turned a yellowish-red in his body, The fins became blood red, and the opaque turned into a beautiful turquoise color. Guess he just needed some love.
