Im hoping he wont get too big and start munching on some of the smaller community fish... he hoovers things up like you wouldn't believe! Currently about 5" Long with 2 large pointy spikey whiskers with some smaller whiskers in between. Has a "flight path" in the aquarium... i.e. always takes the same route to the front of the tank. Swims very fast and low, barging the other plecs and corys out of the way.

Anyone else got one?

Nice cat youve got there mate,S.multipunctatus the cuckoo catfish if im not mistaken. Not had these my self but i do have other species of syno, you should be ok in the eating tankmates,at 5" the fish is full grown and unless you have fry will leave other fish alone.

Nice syno :)

Been thinking of getting a pair for my cichlid tank. Is he shy?

I have S.soloni and a huge great 10" brown syno which i have been unable to identify, could be a hybrid.

Heres a pic of the S.soloni, cant get pics of the other one because he never leaves his cave until dark

Cat fish crazy,

Looked him up on planet catfish, unfortunately doesn't say much about him reckon he must be one of the lesser known species. Looks fairly similar though and nicely patterened. Ive also seen how to sex mine and it looks quite easy. In the fish shop the other weekend I saw some babies really small and they look soooooooo cute, it would be amazing to breed them. Btw, how many tanks have u got, I saw 1 in the background?

DG,

In my prior tank which was about 10 gallon he never came out much except for food, in my current one we see him daily sitting at the front quite often too, thats how I got my pic, he doesnt mind having a camera flashed in his face 10 times!

Billy

I have 4 tanks,a 75g a 30g and 2x10g but the 10s are only used as breeding/fry/quarentine/hospital tanks, will soon be adding a 40g to this too and swaping the 75 for a 175g ( shhh dont tell the mrs but the 75 may be set up in the shed as well). The soloni is one of the lesser known species and they are rarely seen,i have found out that they are one of the few synos that preffer to be kept in groups so when i get the bigger tank i will be looking for some more.

Have you read how your syno breeds? Quite interesting behaviour and one in the eye for the cichlids
