That scares me. Why do they even have those? Are they bred to be there by man or what? I mean, why would a huge cichlid have that?

For God only knows what reason, breeders tend to breed for the trait, thus producing the monster nuchal humps seen in this thread.

My Cyrtocara will get bumps eventually but they are nowhere as big as those here....and it won't impede their vision or their ability to swim
