well, over the weekend, my BIG female lyretail molly, Big Mama, died. she'd been a little lethargic all week, and hiding a bit more than usual. i kept an eye on her. on friday, on our way out the door, my boyfriend checked on her and noticed her one eye was swollen and protuding. i was going to pick up some stuff in the morning, but we found her behind a rock, dead, saturday morning.
Big Mama was one of the first fish i bought over a year ago when i started this crazy hobby. she survived three batches of fish (before i found this site and learned about new tank syndrome and cycling), she's lived in and ruled a few different tanks, dealt with a variety of other tank mates, and given me many many fry. she was the tank matriarch, didn't take crap from anyone. she was big, tough, and my favorite fish. i'm converting the community tank to bw soon, and she was one of the few fish i had planned on keeping and transfering to another smaller tank.
her last remaining fry, a small female who currently lives with my DT betta, will carry on her legacy hopefully.
RIP Big Mama
