I had to try bitter beak after Calla chewed herself a wound the size of a penny during one of her moults. She wouldn't leave it alone and had to have antibiotics, the lot. It got better purely by keeping it wet. She doesnt like to be sprayed much either with a plant mister but she didn't have a choice.
She did the same thing this year as well. We put Skin-Eeze on the wound because it tastes horrible and then we sprayed bitter beak on her feathers. She took one nibble and never did it again.
Problem was then she started using her foot to scratch it....they're too clever for their own good :D

You can get it from a decent pet shop, especially one that has parrots, or use Northern Parrots.
I'd spray Molly quite often and try some bitter beak, she'll be fine ;)

I shall have a look for that then! Thanks! :)

Molly has at least 2 baths a day - she loves water!!! Ive taken her to the vet to make sure there wasnt any problems with her skin and as i said he just told me to keep an eye and make sure she doesnt pluck - Usless!!! :(

Apart from it not being good for her, it looks awful too - I hope she's not going to do this everytime she moults... :/

Jess

P.S. Better picture of her chewed feathers! I did post this in a load yesterday but they "had" to be deleted... lol

If your not sure I'd take her to another vet for a second opinion. I've got a list of all the avian vets all over the Uk. Because I take Calla out to places a lot I have a list of vets just in case. No point in legging it to a vet in an emergancy and they haven't got the facilities to deal with birds.
If you need to know any give us a shout ;)

I love it when vets say stuff like that. I'm not knocking vets because most do a great job it just makes you wonder if they were taught common sense during their seven years training :D

Don't let her pluck......tsst

;)

Yeah, its weird cos he's actually one of the best Avian Vets in the country apparently, but im looking for another one. When Molly had her "accident" with the door we phoned up the vets surgery and they wouldnt see her so we had to take her to our dog's vet so we're a bit pissed about that!!! So, yeah, if you could send me any names/numbers of avian vets in my area that would be great!

I think that vets seem to think that because she's a lot smaller and not worth quite so much she's not worth their time, but to me she's worth just as much as the Grey and 'too so im a bit reluctant to take her back to them - I bet if one of the other two had had the accident they'd have seen them... Rude...
