USA,
i reall want to breed them, but hw wont make a nest. i put some plants in that have leaves that float, a cup that he ould build under. only a really small nest. should i just stop and maybe do a diffrent kind of fish? What about paradise fish? Are the same to breed. and how do you sex them?

quesitons:

1) how long have you had the male in there? was he conditioned for 2 weeks before hand?
2) is the feamle in there with him in her chimney, or is she released into the tank?
3) I assume you have a lid on the tank right? make sure you keep it humid
4) have you triedt aking bubblenests from another betta nad putting it under the cup? sometimes they need that to get the hint and start buildling one.

 try ot be patient wtih them, but just to let you know a bubblenest is NOT absoutley necessary. Spawns can be done without a nest.

well if theres no nest then the eggs will and baby fish will sit at the bottom and grow mold and stuff, the father must constantly move them -_-

yes but the dad should be there to cosntantly pick htem up and spit them out onto the surface of hte water even though there is no nest.

and btw, fry that aren't free swimming yet is suspectible to fungas. That's what happens hwen you take dad out too early. the fry will fall to the bottom of the tank and lay absoultely dead still...perfect target for fungas to start growing on them.

1. the male has been in there for 1 week. and was conditioned with shrimp.
2. not a chimney vase, but a vase. a small one
3. its humid in it, when i opened it to put the female back inb i could feel some heat. the room its in is always hot.
4. my brother tryed that, but he just destroyed it.

he does have a few tiny nest all ver with like 12 bubbles. woulld they be able to put eggs in all of them? I minght try it with out the big nest. maybe i should raise the water so that its closer to the cup?

He never needed any cups or anything to make a nest before. but his water was always higher than it is now.

the cup should rest on the water, i don't get what you mean by raising the water so it's closer to teh cup...

Anyways, you left the female in teh see through vase thing with the male for a week already? i usually relase them after 48 hours max whether or not he has a nest built. My last spawn the male decdied to build a nest last minute while they were embracing, adn build more after the female was gone.

If you see that the female is ready (plump + vertical stripes if she's dark colored) i woudl go ahead and release her, but keep a very close eye on her. it's perferable to do this in teh morning so they'll have the day supervised rather tahn releaseing her during the night and then going to sleep.

anyways, my bettas would build nests even wtihout a cup, but a cup is there i believe to make the nest more concentrated into one area for the eggs rather than ahvign them float all over the tank.

Also out of curiosity post pics of the pair I wanna see them..... :D

I agree with rollntider males need to see the price before they do anything

What kind of shrimp did u feed them?

And did u make reserche for breeding bettas?

Speaking of fry... there's a 5 week old molly fry in my tank.. and i didn't even breed the female, and she's the only molly in my tank. *grins* Musta picked up a fertilized female.

Yes mollys could hold a males sperm for a couple of months SHe probobly was pregnet when u bought her.

Sorry for hi-jacking... :D

th shripm was bbs.

i put a plastic cup in the tank, because i dont have styro, and it doesnt float, just stands in the tank, like a cave. she always lives in this vase, its a gallon, but i filled it half way.

i dont have pics, but they arent good at all, and the pic of the male looks like a VT, because he ate off all his crowns, lol.

and he has lived near this girl scence i got them, like a few months ago, and always made the nest.

ill add the pics
