Hi,

I bought some additional containers so I can transport more RO water. Being honest I thought what I was buying in Ebay was brand new.

It wasn't so that was my mistake. I messaged the seller to ask how he had used the containers. He said he had stored washing machine detergents in them for his business.

The question is if I give them a really good wash out with cold water then a wash out with hot water, will they be safe to use?

Thanks,

Derek

What are they made of ?

If they are made from food grade plastics. You can wash them and brush them thoroughly and rinse multiple times. let aerate a couple days and check if there's traces of detergents and redo as needed.

Today's laundry detergents are bio-degradable and the chemical properties drops rapidly from the moment that they are mixed with water.

Another factor is if you use them to transport water only, the water will be less affected then when used for storing it long term.

If it's high quality containers like those:

There's no problem reusing them after a good cleaning. They are completely safe and non reactive to many chemicals.

Look for these logo on the containers.

UN-approved, tested to carry a range of hazardous materials, as well as being food grade approved.

If you cant reach the interior with a brush to clean it thoroughly, use a super saturated water solution with salt. ( to the point that there's a lot of salt not dissolving ) and shake it for the solution to rub the interior completely and rinse to death.
