So having posted a pic of my Oscars I figured I should actually do a journal.
I had this tank made 3 years prior to actually setting it up. It was to replace my 450 ltr tank but I dreaded the setting it up because of the crazy weight of this thing. Empty, the weight is 160kg
It sits on a frame that I fabricated and the sump tank sits neatly beneath the main tank. I did die a little inside after I made it because my measurements were out slightly.
Basically it was meant to slide in the gap and turn to then fit in almost a 3 point manoeuvre. It turns out that I needed to lift it slightly to reduce the overall length by a couple of mm... There was no way I was going to grind the weld off and redo it.
This picture is shortly after setting up and the decommissioning of the 450 in October 2023.
I had successful plant growth with the Oscars and they always left them alone until there became too much. When there was too much, Steve (he regular Oscar) would make a definitive attempt to get it out of his bed space. I found that if you give them a clear swimming line from one side to the other and keep their sleeping space free from plants they don't worry about them.
While at the LFS the wife requested we give the large Sailfin Plec a home. He didn't look very happy but even the biggest tanks in the shops are still too small really. He was a rehoming job from someone that no longer had the tank space for him.
The Sailfin was a great addition if you ignore the copious amounts of poo and the fact that he devoured my plants.
The 2nd image was the first day of adding the Sailfin.
The Pothos is growing out from my overflow and last week was the first time I trimmed it back. 12 months growth in fish tank water... I had several lengths of it at 4m.
I'm back to just two strands but with leaves that are huge.
