Hi all,

I got myself a new tank last week - 1m x 40cm x 40cm, approx 160L - and spent the weekend finishing the initial set up. This pics was taken a while after filling had been completed, but there are still quite a few air bubbles on the surfaces - these are gradually clearing. Also the tank is not on a slope - I just didn't get the camera level :)

The levees at the back left corner are made from terracotta tiles siliconed together and to the sides, they are also supported on scraps of tile and attached to the base of the tank leaving a sizable gap below for circulation (all of the sharp cut edges are at the bottom or covered with silicon). The substrate is made up of a layer of medium gravel covered with a layer of coarse river sand.

I have no idea what the rocks at the back are called, but they are quite light and I think they are stunning (they should be at £8 EACH). They are siliconed together in that configuration to make an interesting centre piece - it will look better once the plants are attached and some algae builds up.

The uPVC pipe fittings are there to give hiding holes for clown loaches, etc. - I may take them out, dry them off and coat the outside with sand to make them look a bit less out of place.

I am waiting for my plants to be delivered - there is a lot still to go in. The amazon swords at the back and the floating plants came out of my other tank as I needed to prune it back.

There are also some detail shots to follow.

The next pictures will once I have the planting done.

Eddie

Wow that's really cool looking. I like the levels and the rock pile. I wish I was creative like that. I'm sure it will look great with plants. Can't wait to see pics of the end result!

Looking good m8

very artistic B)

....Looks like a couple of bits of pipe have fallen in though :/ .....lol

:)

Thanks for the feedback - I am getting really impatient because the plants haven't arrived yet. I'm like at kid on Christmas Eve waiting for Santa :)

I hooked the uPVC stuff out last night and dried them off and gave them a rough coating of sand left over from the substrate. I decided to do it as they were just a bit too white. Once the silicon has cured they can go back in and start collecting algae....

Cheers, Eddie

B) I like the idea of covering the pipes in silicone/sand - be interesting to see what that comes out like....

...another piccie please Eddie ;)

wow Eddie, love the whole setup & can't wait to see it when you've finished  it's gorgeous!

Lovely set up -
I had a higher level in my community when I started it, but over time the gravel slipped until it became a slope even though I put stones round to make a border. I suspect that my plec had a lot to do with it he used to "waddle" in the plants that I put on the higher level. Eventually I gave up and left the fish to do what they want with it  Now, they're happy and I have a dishevelled jungle
Your set up is great - I really like it.
