I just wanted to know if people think this was a mildly silly idea, or extreme dumbness?

A few weeks back when I started my fishless cycle, I grabbed a handful of blanket weed (similar to the picture here) from the LFS pond section. I wanted some green in the fishless cycling tank. I didn't think about the risk of introducing unwanted microorganisms or pests. But I am asking about the blanket weed in general. If I have a small bit in my set up that is easy to control if it spreads, how silly is that? A little sillly, or major stupidity? I love the shade of green and it's appearance as a little "carpet" underneath some driftwood.

I think you should do what you want? Algae can be attractive and gives a lovely natural feel to an aquarium...treat it like any other plant and maintain it so it doesn't completely take over

Algae is only an issue when it's stopping other plants grow in my opinion, I dont mind it at all
