What can you NOT put with Sandfall?

So, my next tank will be 60gal (approx) display, with a Sandfall.

I‘be seen multiple build videos, so my question is not related to that.

I want to know what kinds of critters I should NOT consider. I’m worried they will become caught in the sand return.

Obviously, free swimming fish would not be an issue. But I worry about corries, loaches, shrimp, and snails.

Is there any other issues I should be aware of?

I’m wanting a fully planted aquascaped tank with Sandfall and neon swarm. Don’t know what custodians I can keep in that setup, if any.

Once it has been thoroughly cleaned and checked for contaminants such as pests and pollutants, some types of beach sand can be used safely. Not all sand kinds are suitable for aquariums; some are excessively granular, while others frequently carry hitchhikers and parasites that could spell the end for your aquarium.

shrimp wouldn't be a problem if you build it right...
the problem with sandfall builds is that most people will use the pump itself to push the sand up which is the incorrect thing to do
the pump should be under gravel so it pulls water through the fine gravel and fish can't get through it
the main output pipe you attach to a smaller pipe in an angle

this way even if a shrimp or a small fish got into the pipe...it'll just tag along for the ride and not be harmed unlike if it was a impeller and turn into sushi

My concern is that the snail (shrimp, cory, etc.) is bigger than the inlet to the venturi, thus clogging it and unable to get out. I am less concerned that they go for a ride.

Never seen one that went trough a pump. Always venturi. Seems the sand would erode the impellors over time, but, I will keep that in mind when designing.
