I have an 120 acrylic with a central overflow box. I am not going to be sumping the tank and due to the acrylic framing (Euro frame) any HOB filtration is out.

This is going to be a coldwater tank. I am rehoming my 6 Dojo/weather loches and ~12 gold barbs from my 50 gallon. They had 2 internal filters; a Sicce 800 and Fluval U4.

I am planning to add some more barbs to the tank and so would like to add filtration via a FX4 canister filter I have.

I wanted to know if I can place the intake for the filter inside the overflow box and get enough flow into the box to keep the filtration constant (i.e. the overflow box full of water).

I included some pics of the tank below...

Sorry, I guess I hit send before the photos. I updated the first post with the photos.

Well tomorrow-into Sunday I will be rearranging the fish room to get the acrylic set up and can answer myself, lol.

Have a couple tanks to break down, some baby betas to catch and a few tanks to move to make space for the stand/tank. Hope the FX will work as I wanted to add some larger barbs (mascara, rose, Odessa...) to the tank.

For those interested I will post some pics as the mess happens, lol.

Well did quite a bit already. Moved the empty acrylic, made about 25 gallons of RODI water for the Betta tanks, broke down the rimless rabbit snail tank, emptied 90% of the Betta tanks and moved the 4 five gallon wild Betta tanks over to where the empty acrylic was sitting, then refilled them with the RODI water. Broke down the shelf that those tanks were using, then straightened the area up so we can bring the stand downstairs.

Still have a bunch to do and made the mistake of stopping for lunch. Hoping to get the tank set up with sand, plants, and filtration today. Let it run and move the dojo/weather loches and barbs over tomorrow.

Also want to cut and glue the acrylic brace for the center frame for the other 120 (glass tank), the one my cat broke. That way next week we may be able to move the inhabitants of our 75 gallon (Preru purple wolf fish, wild blue acarra and BN pleco) into it. Then eventually the pavo eels in my 125 will be getting the 75 all to themselves, well maybe a pleco will join them. I have a couple I can put in the tank, lol.

Well time to get back to work, here comes the heavy lifting.

The acrylic is up! Bit pooped right now so will work on the other projects tomorrow

Added a light and a splash of ammonia to keep the cycle going for the week.

Also worked on the acrylic reinforments for the 120 glass tank. Not east to cut with a jigsaw as it was pretty thick. Not the prettiest but functional it is.

Going to give it a week till we fill the tank. Tomorrow I will remove the clamps and see if I can clean up the epoxy at all.
