Dwarf Gourami Sick

Help! Gourami staying at the bottom of the tank.
It has started to turn black and is lethargic. Barely moves.
I have him for 2 months now. The symptoms started 2 days ago. I see a thin long white string at the bottom.

A long white thin string? Is he pooping the string out??
If so it very could well be an internal worm infection... @Colin_T would know what to do!
 
Is he alone in this tank? How big is the tank? Any other fish in it?
 
The fish is most likely infected by worms then.... But he looks really bad off. Also, just for any future fish you keep, 3.5g is too small.
I would euthanize it as well, he seems too weak to handle meds and he ie about to die in a day or two. But I would end his suffering.

3.5 gal is the hospital tank. He used to be in 20 gal before he got sick.
 
It's not worms. Worms cause fish to eat normally and lose weight over a course of months. Sometimes fish can get skinny and other times they can get really fat due to heaps of worms in them. But they keep eating, swimming and acting normally when carrying worms.

If a fish suddenly stops eating and does a stringy white poop, it has an major internal problem (usually a bacterial infection) and has suffered major internal damage. They don't normally survive more than 24-48 hours after producing these symptoms so euthanise it asap.

I will euthanise him.
I went through couple of thread related to similar symptoms on Gourami and none had survived. I will relieve it from its pain.
 
I've had 3 DG at various times.. They all died within a month or two...most likely from Dwarg Gourami Disease. I gave up keeping them although I do love them.
