Not all chain stores are the worst!

I just visit the NICEST Petsmart I’ve ever seen. Of course the bettas were in little cups, that’s basically ever Petsmart ever, but the cups were spotless and the bettas were alert and bright and overall looked SO much healthier than any bettas I’ve seen at any other chain store. And below the display, they had this

The tanks were spotless. Very natural sand and yes, fake plants, but not bright neon ones. The tanks were clean too. They had unique fish, I saw peacock cichlids, electric blue acaras, and some massive nerite snails. Like massive. Everything was so well kept. Every Syrian hamster had her own enclosure with a NOT see through hide. They actually had somewhere to go to feel safe. Overall I was very impressed. There’s hope yet

A good fishroom manager can go a long way. I have seen a few petsmarts that had short periods of better quality, til people moved on in search of better pay.

My nearest Petsmart is also well kept. I complimented the young man on the tanks and he just beamed. We also need to provide positive feedback where warranted.

Yeah unfortunately this Petsmart is an hour from me. My local one is not great. I only buy equipment there, I wouldn't give their livestock a chance.

I have two locally owned pet / fish shops here but I do make the occasional foray to the PetsMart here. It's " Okay " but not great. They have some cool new fish from time to time but the plant selection is scanty. They do the lizards and birds good though. Mostly what I go there for is equipment and supplies. They have things the local yokel can't afford to keep in inventory. It pains me to spend money at this giant national chain and see it go out of town but I salve my conscience by telling myself I'm helping to pay somebody's wages and keep the wolf away from their door.
