A lot of plant forums recommend it, but they are usually talking about aquatic gardens with perhaps the odd fish rather than fish tanks with plants. Without fish etc breathing out CO2 and with high intensity lighting, and dosing massive amounts of fertiliser these plant people can lack CO2. With fish/shrimps/snails in the tank, it is not a good thing to add to a tank.
