hello, today i went to the lfs and got some guppies and a bamboo shrimp. turns out there was a hitchiker in the bamboo shrimp

it looks like a neocaridina or a amano shrimp!!!
i really need help, i have never kept these guys and i really want to keep my little guy alive and potentially get him some friends later on.

i put in a strand of anacharis and a piece of water lettuce with a rotten leaf of another plant in there.
ill try to get a photo he looks a lot like this neo

Are you able to get macro shots of the one you've acquired?

Could be a neo, but there are also some shrimp species that look similar to amanos, but have claws on long front legs, and would be a danger to fry and other shrimp. No one can really help much if we don't know what we're dealing with! ;)

You could always fill a glass container, like a pint glass even, with some tank water, add shrimp and take pics, return shrimp to main tank.

ill get the macro lens. he has a reddish tint...
he's in a seperate bag in the tank so the fish do not eat him

Oh yeah even if i dont knwow what it is how can i keep it happy?

that's for sure not an amano shrimp..it's missing all the dots on its shell...
I'd guess either a ghost or snowball...leaning more towards the ghost one...

I can't remember where and who I learned about the predatory type of shrimp that sometimes gets mis-sold as amanos from. @Essjay or @Slaphppy7 do you know the ones I mean? I think it might have been @Ch4rlie who mentioned them before. I've no idea how common it is that they're mis-sold as amanos. But I remember that you can spot them by their extra long front legs with claws on the end. The harmless shrimp don't have them. But that's why I'd be wary of putting unidentified shrimp into my tank, since I always have tiny fish and fry.

@Sgooosh - keeping it happy depends on what type of shrimp it is, hence wanting to get some macro photos before you release it into the tank, ideally! ;) But good water conditions always important to shrimp of course. Caridinas, neos and amanos all sensitive to high nitrAtes or swings in water chemistry/conditions. Amanos/neos/caradinas all like company of the same species, so need an ID to see whether you want to get company for them and start a colony, just care for the singlet, or return it. :)

ETA: Forgot to ask, what fish are in the tank?
