Hi guys, recently added a lone, fully grown Angel fish to the 55 gallon. Never owned fish this big and or course he is producing a lot of waste. I’ve noticed a lot of this trapped in the inlet pipe and wandering if this is normal, or if this waste should be sucked in by the filter. I thought all waste would be taken in by the filter but if this is not the case, am I supposed to just vacuum it? Pictures attached, and while I’m here, if anyone could try sex the fish that could be helpful for the future! Thanks

It should be sucked into the filter but doesn't always. Just turn the filter off, remove the intake strainer and wash it outside under the hose. Then put it back on the filter and turn the filter back on.

*NB* Make sure your hands are dry when turning the filter on or off.

All of that gunk is probably a mixture of poop, algae, leftover food, and any other nasty's. It builds up after a while, but you don't want to leave it there forever, or it will start to break down. Just take it under the sink and give the intake pipe a good scrub.

Thanks guys! Also does anyone know if the see through sections of the dorsal fun and tail fin normal? Seems happy regardless!

Yes, that translucent section is natural.
