Just thought I'd share a picture of my dragon rock, its covered in algae of all sorts which is fine by me as it adds to the natural look....but look at the top...

There's little white rings! Almost like lichen? I wonder what it is? Does anyone have a clue?
 
Hard to tell for sure from the photo but that looks a lot to me like it has been in a marine tank. The purple looks like Coralline Algae, the white is parts of that which have died off.

I could be wrong but definitely looks like that to me.
 
Nope, I bought it from maidenhead aquatics all covered in clay! So interesting though isn't it?
 
My first thought was that is was previously in a marine tank as well... did you buy it "new"? What was it advertised as?
 
Yup, brand new in the aquatics shop as dragon stone

After seeing that photo, definitely dragon stone. That’s weird it was purple.
 
I don't know why algae is hated so much, on bits like this I find it quite attractive...I understand the nasty black beard algae etc no one wants that 😩
